F10 M5 and Dinan?

Hey all..has anyone heard anything about upgrades for the M5 from Dinan? There are seemingly enough M5's out and about that at least Dinan should be developing something to drool over....

Cheers,

It takes time- they need to get donor test cars for development. Software can push turbos to edge of engine meltdown or anywhere in between. $1K for ? 50 extra hp. Wait likel;y a year or so in my experience with M3 mods.

Agreed....I just received an e-mail from them stating that they are eagerly awaiting the arrival of a new M5...as soon as it comes in (apparently any day now) they will start development with products likely in the spring of 2013...just in time for my own M5 euro delivery..

Cheers,

They're working on it. Steve has his car, and is driving it daily with software derived from the N63.

I'm surprised that DINAN doesn't already have products out for the F10 M5
I was really expecting them to be the first w/ a ECU tune ...

They take their time. The end result is a quality product that has been tested and vetted, and as such covered by their terrific warranty. I don't mind waiting for quality.

I'm also under NDA now so I can't say anything more.

From Dinan, expect the same basic bolt-ons that are available for the N54:
  • Tunes
  • Cold Air Intake
  • Upgraded Front Mount Intercooler
Be interesting to see how in-depth they go with internal type mods since this is the 1st turbo ///M motor Dinan will work with

As for other vendors that don't have to adhere to BMW NA's Warranty Agreements, expect more fun stuff like....
  • Catless/Race Cat Downpipes
  • Methanol Injection
  • Aftermarket Turbos
  • E85 Tunes

Regardless, there will prob be plenty of suspension, brake & drivetrain mods from all the major vendors.

I'm guessing if they do make intercooler upgrades it'll be an air-to-water unit like the OEM one. The N63 on the 550i uses an air-to-water unit and not a front mount air-to-air. Damn those mods will start adding up $$!

Just look at the cost of the upgraded intercoolers for the N63 motor. I was thinking of adding them to my tuned X5 50i Dinan but altogether about $3000 with labor for a gain of around 15-20hp. I already have the software and Dinan exhaust and this thing is a beast. I have not decided what tune for my F13 M6 but am waiting to see what Dinan has coming up. They have a program for the X5/X6M S63 engines so I am assuming they will for the S63tu. Only time will tell. And yes they will be expensive. I had all the Dinan mods for my E64 M6 and other than the stroker motor, the parts and labor were in the $15000 range for a gain of 60hp.

DINAN has never been a baragain and never will be.

They charge $8000 for headers for the E39 M5, good for 30 hp only lol

Both of those gains seem right around the range of a naturally aspirated engine but definitely the price is inflated. Going with a naturally aspirated route definitely is not cheap and many times will rely heavily on good product design and tuning. You can't expect the same kind of power increases as a turbocharged/supercharged engine would see as they see significantly more volume.

I think for most owners the intercooler upgrade might not even be really necessary unless they're planning to crank up the boost or do significant power adders besides standard bolt-on parts. I guess it depends on how much power you're realistically looking for, what you plan to do with that power (i.e. track or street), and of course how much $$ you have to spend.

What's up with Dinan?

I know there are lots of posts.....

but has anyone heard an update from Dinan? Seriously.... they're supposed to be the premier BMW tuner in the USA and their response to my email to them asking when product would be released was "sometime next year."

Sometime next year? Can they be a little bit more vague with that response?

Thanks Dinan, I just bought an Akrapovic exhaust and H&R springs after having two E60 M5's that were 100% Dinan.

I've always been a Dinan fan in spite of all the negative press. My M3 has every Dinan bolt on they make, and I love it. I've also installed Meisterschaft exhaust and H&R springs on my new M5. They definately are challenged by being a US company, but they could develope a schedule of what and when their new M5 products will be available.

Steve Dinan is an extremely bright, confident, and cocky guy, and he just doesn't give a shit what the market thinks. When he has product, they'll let us know. Until then, tough
