Wow, yet another twist. This is getting a little weird.

I spoke to my Service Manager this afternoon and he hasn't heard a thing since last Friday. Go figure.

Repairs are at the VDC unless already shipped to dealer. My car was released to the trucking company and then recalled back to the VDC. I suspect if mine was called back no others are going to get released to the trucks.

It sounds like there may be a significant number of vehicles at the VDC. If logic prevails, BMW would want to get the most number of customer vehicles fixed in the quickest time. That could mean the first set of pumps could go to the VDC for fix.

That does make sense, but I quizzed the BMW NA Rep who called me on this issue and she insisted that my was in transit and would continue on to the dealer, where the fix would be applied. I specifically asked if the fix would happen at port and she said "no." This is for an ED re-delivery. I also get that BMW reps are not the last word and can be wrong/misinformed.

Get this in writing ASAP if your car is on the list otherwise park it now.

Mine was at the VDC when all this went down (an M6). My dealer told me it would stay there until the dealer received the pump. Only then would it be released, with the repair being done there (the dealer).

Dealer's 'Satisfaction Survey' was very poorly timed.

Ordered my M6 on the 12th, picked it up on the 15th and drove it for one day before going on vacation for two weeks.

Then got a phone call in Vegas from the dealer saying my car has been recalled and the parts won't be in for a 'couple of weeks'.

Their offer of an X3 loaner wasn't good enough.

I've sent the car back and handed back both keys, service book and the V5 (UK car document) and bought a new E63 with PP.

I'm now demanding a refund. It's a shame it came to this.

On what legal grounds are you demanding a refund? Things may be different in the UK but not sure there is legal basis to support the demand?

Under the UK "Sales of Goods Act 1979" you are entitled to a full refund if your vehicle experiences a fault within the first three weeks of purchase.

Well it's just an oil pump that needs to be replaced and they'll probably have the part soon after your holiday is over. Regardless, enjoy the E63 with PP as it's a nice car just not as 'sporty' as an M5.

Unfortunately I'm back home now and it sucks driving a BMW 1 series as my main car. Knowing you've spent over $170K on a car and can't drive it for the foreseeable future is mental torture, especially with the last of the good weather coming to an end for the winter. I traded in my 2012 M5 for this and they've sold it already so I couldn't have it back whilst the repair is made.

Seriously, if they'd given me an M3 or maybe even an X6 to use I would have kept it but a 2 litre diesel X3 is just total cr*p.

It will be missed though.

Yes, and no that cost is added to the cars big time vs. what we pay in the states. The more govt involvement we all pay no thanks.

Too bad my local BMW dealership service department managed to bungle an oil change, wiper blade replacement, and tire inflation. Asking them to replace an oil pump is like asking Homer Simpson to do it.

Actually for most Marques now (Porsche, Ferrari, etc.) they've moved to pricing the US cars in line with Europe etc. just remember when you look at the prices to compare apples to apples (for example cars in Europe are quoted online with sales tax included unlike here).

m5's sitting outside

I stopped by my local dealer, VOB BMW Saturday night and saw 4 customer F10 M5's sitting outside. I would assume they all are effected by the oil pump recall, but shouldn't they park the vehicles in their garage? I would not be happy about that

One would think so! The cars sitting at the VPC are probably sitting outside as well
