Was told by Anthony that 124 of 287 oil pumps were shipped and that remaining of the 287 batch will ship out by the end of the week. I don't who is on the list of the 287 pumps, but he did email me a confirmation that he has already forwarded my info for the next shipment. That is where I got the 287 number. You can give him a call to confirm if your VIN is included in that batch.

Strange.
The previous m5/m6 (v10) had dual electric oil pumps. Thought that was pretty badass. They would even prime prior to starting for better oil protection when cranking.

Wonder why they strayed away from electric pumps.

Drivehard, thank you very much for taking the time to put these together and post for the forum. The entire situation, not to mention the lack of consistent / quality information, has been somewhat unnerving for everyone affected.

It’s still not ideal that the original factory install has to be disturbed (seals, oil, adding potential risk for mistakes) but this information and level of detail is very welcome (and can be somewhat comforting). Thanks again.

M5Post community,

I also have some additional information for you straight from my dealer who has gotten this information from BMW NA themselves.

They asked me to pass along that no oil pumps are supposed to be changed at the VDC itself and that all oil pumps will be replaced at dealerships only. This only mostly affects those M5's that are still in transit for U.S. Delivery and also those who are having their M5's shipped right now from Euro Delivery. My dealer has always been extremely reliable and accurate with important information like this and felt that this information should be shared with the community.
Thanks.

Edit: This is for the West Coast VDC's only by the way. I understand that some VDC's on the East Coast may have already replaced some pumps, I cannot confirm that though. Sorry for the confusion.

Agree!! I just got call from service manager. This is true and cars that have been delivered already are absolutely getting pumps first. He said that this is a small recall at around 1000 cars so even though it seems like a lot, they will be done fast.

Cars awaiting delivery are last, sucks for me

Not true my car was repaired today at the VDC, and ready for shipping to my dealer which makes sense. They have the best facility to process the work so I'm very satisfied.

It seems to be random, as I picked up my car a couple weeks ago, yet my pump isn't scheduled (per BMW NA) to be shipped out to my dealer until Saturday. :-(

Your edit is correct. Any cars moving through the NJ VPC WILL ABSOLUTELY be repaired at the VDC and not at the dealer - my CA heard this directly from the manager at the NJ VPC. My car was repaired at the NJ VPC this morning and delivered to my dealer this afternoon. I'm picking it up tomorrow.

Yes.

Guys, parts are flying around quickly now. I'm hopeful everyone will be back on the road soon. Hang in there!!

Interesting, after my 10 calls to bmwna and escalations and them same thing at my dealer i have heard nothing other than the fix will be at dealer. My car is still at VPC too, I hope you are right. I even had bmwna call my dealer for me to confirm fix was at dealer

Makes sense for priority, eldest VINs first.

Your welcome... and i like theses shots also...

They tend to answer and calm down un knowns on the internet... like the "oh my god, my new car is getting major surgery" ... ( dont get me wrong.. i feel for all of you with new cars that could not be driven ) but in reality, one 3/8ths ratchet, 3 sockets, a screwdriver, and a drain pan is all it takes to do this job.. literally i would do this in my garage if i had to.. Makes a hell of a mess though even draining all the oil out... drip drip drip drip....

Im not a tech btw .. just a lucky someone...

p.s. those cars "close" enough to the 1200 mile service are getting it ( if CBS reads due or recommended) that means light reset, diff fluid changed, and if you have a 6 spd ( not dct ) then trans fluid changed... and you guys are free to ENJOY yourselves......

If cars are not close enough... you will still have to come back for your 1200... even though you got your oil changed at this point and time... ( the diff and 6spd tranny would not have been done at this time, and the light should NOT have been reset)

DEALER DOES NOT DICTATE THIS <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

its all based on CBS values... ( so dont go jump up and down wanting an "earlier" 1200 mile service )

Regards.....

Bumpin' this cause I'm peeved! No car yet. Everyone is clueless with what's happening at the VPC

Has anyone that has their car sitting at the VPC been able to get any info about their car yet??

No luck here, try everyday and the people just get more dumb to the issue.

Certainly agree on the quality of the info ("people just get more dumb" was funny). My car has been sitting at the NJ VPC since 9/26 (came over on the Toronto). Got call from BMW NA yesterday that the oil pump would be done this week at the VPC and just got word today that it was released to the carrier for transport. I'm sure you'll get some good news soon.

My car left the VDC last Saturday, and arrived at the dealer Monday for pick up Friday as I have to fly in and pick it up. The windows were tinted today, and the entire front end will have 3M applied tomorrow. Pick up Friday, and my drive to Atlanta and park it next to the 650ci. It's been a long month since my drop off in Europe 9/4. Good luck all
