Speed Limiter Question
I had my F10 M5 at the track this weekend. Front straight I was able to hit mid 140s MPH. I was challenged to get to 150 as the car was not continuing to accelerate at the same rate once I got into the 140 range. I know I am approaching the speed limiter. I am wondering how the speed limiter software effects the rate of acceleration as the car approaches the limit. Does it decrease the acceleration in advance of the limit so the car does not exceed the stated maximum speed?
I recall running my E60 550 on the autobahn at full speed and the car accelerated to the limit (150) and then stopped accelerating. Fun, fun, fun! |

No it should continue accelerating until hits the limiter...

Thank you all. I believe the limiter is set at 155. I probably needed more runway to hit the top end. I know you have to push a lot of air out of the way so I may have been experiencing aerodynamic drag which slowed the rate of acceleration while the speed kept creeping up.
Going back to my original question, how does the speed limiter function? I know from the autobahn experience you can cruise at prolonged distances at the max set by the speed limiter. Does the software control fuel flow? apply brakes? engine mapping? |

I have been on the autobahn when the limiter kicked in, and it feels like the engine is not generating any more power, so I suspect fuel flow is changed. Definitely not the brakes.
