4.0L biturbo V8 confirmed for 2015 C63 by AMG Product Chief Tobias Moers

http://www.worldcarfans.com/11401136...next-year-with

"AMG product chief Tobias Moers confirmed the new C63 AMG will be out in early 2015 with a newly developed V8 4.0-liter twin-turbo gasoline engine.

Rumors about the all-new C63 AMG getting a twin-turbo V8 4.0-liter engine have now been confirmed and the new motor will be the result of joining two of AMG's 2.0-liter 4-cylinder turbo engines found inside the high-performance versions of the A-Class lineup (A45 AMG, CLA45 AMG and GLA45 AMG).

The new model is "about a year" away according to Tobias Moers who said AMG models usually have more power than rivals. Since the recently introduced 2014 BMW M3 Sedan / M4 Coupe have 431 HP (317 kW), we expect at least 450 HP (331 kW) from the 2015 C63 AMG and up to 500+ HP (368 kW) with the optional performance package.

On a side note, reports are indicating Mercedes-Benz will install the engine in the SLC which will allegedly be introduced on July 20."

Still awaiting details regarding the transmission (DCT or MCT) and drivetrain (RWD or 4MATIC/AWD).

You heard correct! Since this new sand-cast motor pretty much has forged everything, I expect that it is going to be able to put out some monster power numbers.

I don't anticipate the W205 C63 being available for purchase until the end of 2015. The new model will only be revealed in the first quarter of 2015. Timeline keeps getting pushed back.

So you've got about 2 more years to enjoy the W204.

It will certainly be quite a bit heavier than the M3/M4 and BMW is claiming 0-60 in 3.9...Wonder if the new C63 will follow suit of other AMG models and be AWD only in the USA

After watching the Detroit launch video, I am going to pass on the M3. It was almost embarrassing when the cars rolled out and they revved the engine, horrible sound.

Not so sure about quite a bit heavier. Mercedes is claiming the base C-class is now the lightest in the segment. So they have a good car to work off of.

The current C63 (a heavy car, I will admit) has been tested at 3.7 seconds to 60. That's for the standard version.

"Our best time—0 to 60 in 3.7 seconds—came without making use of the 'race start' launch-control setting. Use launch control, and you get a very repeatable 0-to-60 time of 3.9 seconds, but we were able to beat that with a gentle foot and less wheelspin." - Car and Driver

I can't imagine how fast the new one will be. Especially considering that it will be 250-300 pounds lighter than the W204 (with more power).

Yeah but would it matter? If it has faster shifts, that's all that matters. Both don't have the 3rd pedal anyways.
Corvette's 8-speed auto shifts faster than Porsche's PDK/dual clutch.

The MCT is an awesome transmission, the only gripe I had was the delay it had when you shifted. Fix that, and I'm sold.

its great to see AMG stay with a V8. i will bet it will sound better than the M4. but still going to have a turbo sound to it. overall i would take a AMG over a M right now. but i would take a Vette over both. so my maybe my opinion doesn't matter anymore.

the problem is not shifting fast.

the problem with torque converted autos is there FEEL. They FEEL more numb. its to smooth of a tranny. the DCTs are rougher, and do not creep forward at idle. feels more like a manual than auto at times.

i cant stand normal autos.

Yeah, I wish my C63(prefacelift) had the MCT with race start function.

If you want the "FEEL", you should get a manual with 3 pedals?

Anything with 2 pedals, I just throw it drive (dct/cvt/auto). Paddles/shifting get boring after about 2 minutes of using it with a car that has 2 pedals.

Race Start is addicting.

Expect to see a GoPro video of a Race Start sometime soon . . .

Camera will be attached to rear bumper and focused on the exhaust.
