Hello

Does anyone know how long an M5 takes to produce?

My car is due for build next week and I am trying to arrange my trip to Germany around visiting the factory.

Cheers

Mat

hi mat,

it's a point id be interested in too...

I ordered mine yesterday and they reckon it could be ready in a couple of months, perhaps 6 weeks... I don't need it yet though so said not to rush it. plus if you have any Individual options, like piano black trim like me, or special paint, this takes a whole month longer!! those lazy feckers

Track it with your VIN - chances are tho when it says it getting painted, its probably built already.

I wanted the mineral white, but wasn't going to wait a month or two longer for it. Amazed me that black piano trim makes it individual.

I was told by my dealer it only takes 2 days to actually build from scratch. My new one is due in next 2 weeks after being built last week.

Yep, sounds good!
Maybe OP thought he might get to see his car in its build stages possibly

Or the excitement of waiting could be subdued slightly by taking a trip to Munich

That would be pretty cool to see your car on the line - I believe all the Ms are made in Dingolfing. When I went for my tour there, I was told the average production time for each car is 33 hours. Im not sure what that equates to in business days though since they have a night shift, my guess is it takes 4-5 days.

Shame they can't get the paint right then, all my BMW's have paint defects, small "Nibs" under the lacquer , if you look carefully you will find them on yours, terrible Quality control.
Audi paint on the other hand is always good.

the darker the colour the easier it is to spot those nibs

For the X3 & X5, the whole process is 2 days. But it consists of 3 separate processes, body assembly, paint, and final assembly. If I recall, body assembly is not your specific car. Bodies are then sent through the paint process and cure for a short while. Standard paints are not yet your car. Final assembly is where your specific build begins and only takes 2 shifts, I think. They had or still have videos available for ones' specific build for X3s. Here was mine which explains the process well.

I've also toured the Spartanburg factory several times. Very cool!

They probably don't trust UK customers to drive on the right side of the road.

Prohaps not quite the joke it was intended BUT the amount of accidents around the Air Base at Mildenhall in the UK involving US DRivers is very high indeed, so much so all US drivers are speed restricted by there own military in the area.
