MDM in my M3 made me worried. I don't think I will ever turn dcs off. How can you tell he hit the brake. Lucky no one was sitting in that bus stop.

Ouch, poor guy, it happens so much faster than you think. DSC off is for track and empty parking lots (without light poles) only, that's for sure. But don't think MDM would always safe your butt.
Video clip (you have seen it from my recent trip to the Poconos), shows what can happen on a perfectly dry road with MDM on. As @Fantasm hinted, throttle is your controlling parameter, braking can kill you.

Even on a perfectly fine dry road, the beast can lose its tail. Time and again, it has gotten scary. A better tire rubber compound might be of real help!

Looks like he wanted to power slide (which may be why he had DSC off too) --- he had a green light, but still pulled out and stopped to check for traffic/cops/people before giving it gas into the turn (something that looks familiar to how I do it).
It looks like he hit the brake because as his car is still weighted to the drivers side, the passenger side dives (BEFORE the weight transfer would have occurred), and as it dives the cars trajectory follows it back down to the right and with the wheels having no traction understeers into the sidewalk. If he had feathered throttle he might have / probably could have come out of it with a smooth powerslide. #1. mistake people make is letting off gas #2. mistake is hitting the brakes

exact same thing happened to me while i was letting someone test drive mine. minus the crash. we came to a stop about 3 feet from a pole. i was like "dude this isnt the e60, you cant do that around a turn in the pouring rain!"
i still cant see, and couldnt then, how theres enough momentum to keep going and crash after fishtailing twice. |

BMW Advanced Driving Course would sort it out. No need for Intensive Driving Course, the basic course would do.

I made the mistake of letting someone drive my car once. Thankfully all nannies on. He mashed the throttle on a small 2 lane road w/ no shoulders and a marginal road surface. All was well but it scared the crap out of me. Never again.

Hahaha, I also let a friend of mine drive my car and it gets pretty scary when someone doesnt expect this kind of power in such a big car.

I wonder if he was aware that:
Lots of power and torque + wet weather + rear wheel drive = possible traction issues IMHO He should've just kept DSC ON, set all parameters to 'Comfort' and just stick to "S1" driving mode. |

What I don't understand is why people mash the gas pedal when they take off with the steering wheel at full turn. What did they think was going to happen? There are a lot of Ferrari, mustang, Camaro vids of this. At a stop, making a left or right...right at the apex of the turn they floor it....

I did a similar thing when I had the car in the first few weeks, not as bad as the guy but like the title says ... ease off the gas when it's raining.
