and in the long term if it helps prevent engine failure then it really makes the price of admission a whole lot more attractive.

I unfortunately have already dealt with a failed engine but I definitely want to properly care for my RKAutowerks stock rebuild. I'll be doing power adding mods soon so this is coming at the perfect time for me.

Nice! As someone who has taken this thing to the track and would like to keep doing so, this (hopefully) takes care one of the points of concern: oil temps.

Would really like to see some real world comparisons, but that might be harder than when the CSF vs stock charge coolers comparison was done.

Are you talking about when Evolve did their comparison?

That is what I was thinking. Not sure if my indy has any product affiliations that would prevent them from covering this but I could ask if they are interested.

yeah, the Evolve comparison is what I was thinking of. It certainly should cool more, but curious how much. Unlike the charge coolers the air has other options on where to go. I imagine with the increased thickness and higher fin density at least some of the air going through the OEM cooler would divert to going through the main radiator. Also unlike the charge coolers, which just try to cool the air as much as possible*, the car tries to maintain 100c on the oil, so the test would have to be one that can overwhelm the stock cooler enough to push it noticeably past that mark.

*someone correct me if I'm wrong

Does anyone really have real world proof that this has any benefit towards stock power? Now i'm not saying that their research is directed towards stock performance, I can see it is for more modified S63's, but when it comes to stock performance, I feel like keeping the normal heat exchangers as well as intercoolers would be most beneficial no?

I dun't have empirical data to back it up but my stock engine had the rod bearings replace and it still managed to seize rod bearings despite duty as a daily driver with regular oil changes. I can't tell you that this would have helped 100% but now that I am adding mods on a stock rebuild engine; I fully intend to do things differently.

I haven't taken the M5 to the track yet but did notice during my mountain run that oil temperature is significantly lower when car is on sport or sport+ , compared to eco mode. No change in the drive behavior. After I noticed that I ran the car on highway just keeping constant speed and log the temp in sport/sport+ and eco and saw 20F+ difference.

Would be nice to see some real data for that one. But given the company I am pretty sure the quality will be there.

Other than burning more fuel I can't think of any negative consequences for running in Sport+. I do use the mode frequently but typically when about 15 mins from home to help the car cool.

Oh the burning fuel isn't my concern, if it was I wouldn't have V8 lol. I like the eco mode on highway as it is smooth. But was curious what is changing in the cooling between the modes to archive that

I read in an s63tu engine tech manual or blog a year or two ago and IIRC 2 things happen. (1) The fan circuit is gated sooner and continuously to air cool the radiator. (2) The thermostat has a thermal map for each mode and in sport+ the tstat can be gated to open sooner by preheating.

ECS Tuning and other folks offer a 90c or 95c tstat as compared to the hotter factory 105c but I have not installed it yet. I do plan on changing mine when I do my intercoolers.

The coolant temp target changes to 85C in sport+. I'm not aware of anything changing on the oil cooling side, though.

I think I might be hijacking my own thread but while on the topic of temp and temp management have any of you used these folks?

https://headershield.com/

https://headershield.com/test/

I have seen downpipes sold with this material used for heat shielding but couldn't find any builders or users that could vouch for it. I recently stumbled across some stuff seemslegitgarage.com was doing and asked them about it. They were happy to name drop the product and have become an authorized reseller.

I wish I had seen this prior installing my DP's.
