Is there reduced power before break-in service?

I've searched the forums and I found many opinions which run the gamut on this question. Have we reached a conclusion?

I'm trying to understand whether the M5 has reduced power before the first break-in service is performed. Normally I would have scoffed if someone suggested this but I've spent a lot of time in a 2014 E63 AMG and now in an M5 with < 700 miles and the M5 feels substantially weaker than the E63 felt.

I haven't redlined the M5 or even taken it past 5000 rpm but I can say it feels substantially weaker than the E63 at high throttle openings. The acceleration in the E63 was, to put it mildly, brutal. The M5 seems merely brisk.

Given that all the magazines which test this car observe them trapping within a mph or so of each other, I don't understand why this car would feel slower than the E63 so I am wondering about a break-in service and whether that changes things.

Thoughts?

I broke mine in properly so I can't answer that question. But after breakin and first service if you then think it is slow after face planting the throttle then something is wrong. Go 80 mph face plant it and count to 5 and see how fast your going. You'll be surprised

There is absolutely no difference in horsepower before and after the 1,200 mile service. I opened the car up on the highway prior to my 1,200 mile service appointment. It was amazingly fast. Trust me.

Are you driving in Efficient mode? If so, that is probably why the car doesn't feel very fast. Second, if you aren't going over 5,000rpm then you have yet to see what this car can really do.

Personally, I felt the car was faster immediately after pulling away from the dealer from break-in service appointment. I kept driving below 5,200RPM until 50 miles after break-in service. So it wasn't like I opened it up and thought it was faster because of that. Also I didn't know about this theory until afterwards.. so I wasn't bias at all.

Also the throttle mode changes accelerator pedal. Sport Plus is pretty brutal.

Are you in MDM, D3, sport plus? That should put away most cars on the road. Especially from a roll.

I question this myself, only difference is I'm at 5500 ft above sea level. I'm still breaking her in, but I do feel the lack of power. I guess I have to wait and see after my break in maintenance...
