As much as i love the M5, i wont consider it a classic in the regard it was so special, but a classic down the road as just another era of a M5, and turbo era of it.
The newest M5 just isnt special enough to be consider a real special classic. It shares a common formula with other cars on the market, V8 bi turbo, DCT, rwd, etc. Manual being the exception really.
The E60 M5, A V10 in a family sedan, the exhaust note, the 10 time engine award winning, now that's a classic.

The problem with the E60 M5 is it's a Bangle era design which equates to ugly. Not to mention the F10 is faster, better looking, and handles better. It's just too bad they never put the V10 in a good looking car.

What do you mean? It has a high revving and very good sounding racey V10, but not more to make it. The one that has to be on that list is the E39 ///M5.

Don't think so.

I love my f10 M5 but I don't think it will ever be a classic. I don't understand why they would commend the manual option either. The manual transmission keeps the car from reaching its full potential and I never understood why people wanted it. Its like buying an I pad but you've attached a keyboard to it because you hate touch screens.

M5 way over M6 everyday. M5 has the look while M6 has stretched egg DNA in its design. Just my opinion.

Much like muscle cars in the past few years, collectors in the future will buy these because of faulty memories and fantasies rather than on true merits. If they were to drive them rather than seeing them rolled across a stage while a monkey jumps around encouraging them to bid, they'd run away as fast as possible.

Harsh, yes, but even BMW knows that the F10 platform is a mistake, and a dead-end. If it wasn't then they'd have used it for the F15 rather than updating the E70. That they didn't is all you need to know.

I know there's other threads on this but that jumped out at me too, $123000 in the UK at today's exchange rate, never going to be under $100000 here. Throw in roughly $8 a gallon and I wonder why I live here.... Must be our famous weather.

You all need to realize there is only one reason it made the list, it's the last manual transmission m5 which will be considered rare

It's not the regular m5 with Dct they are speaking of, this particular breed will die this year for good.

I am happy to own one, I love my 6MT, it is like a 4 door go kart

Its a great car for what it is but it doesn't make me wake up early in the morning to take it out on my favorite road or make me want to sit in front of it and stare at it for hours on end. True signs of a classic car for me.

Reading over the comments, I'm surprised that so many dislike the E60("Bangle") or rather prefer the F10 in the looks dept. I know looks are subjective but I think the E60 is far from "ugly", in fact it's more interesting to me. Of course I like Bangle design philosophy. It has been quite influential and copied by other auto manufacturers. Adrian van Hooydonk continues today with a with a "toned down" bangle philosophy. I mean, who doesn't like the Z4? That's all Bangle.

Wrong. M5 F10 looks much better than M6/M6GC in every aspect, front, rear, profile, proportions, masculinity, aggressive and powerful road presence. M6 is for girls. M6 to M5 is like Justin Bieber to David Statham.

Not a classic, classic cars have something special, unique, rare about them.

Agree if you track it. If your drive it 99% of the time it's a preference thing. There's something in controlling gear selection, how much rear end slide you want. Also in this car vs m3 the torque means you can skip gears making it very usable daily driver. But hey that's why there's a choice. Assume you've driven both? I see the value in both but prefer manual. If they didn't offer one I might have gone 911 S manual. Or back to the new m3 manual. But because it's offered I get the fast family wagon in manual, I appreciate the choice. In the article it indicates manual and my view will be because it will be rare less than 500 probably made in its lifetime. In 20-30 years when every car is electric automatic gearbox car it may just be a classic.

This- plus a Billion.

While the M6 GC is nice the base M6 design is much more appealing than the stretched look.

BMW should have made an all original GC design, call it the new 8 series and kick the A7's ugly #$@!*)#...........

Atleast someone agrees.

The only car I ever got rid of and missed after upgrading was my E60 M5. I wish I kept it.

The V10 is incredible, and will never be in another BMW again.

The SMG is controversial, and I like DCT better for everyday driving.. but the SMG III was so much fun. S8 shifts.. best thing ever. If you didn't own one, then you have no idea.
