Just got snow tires put on

Having snow tires put on my 2014 competition package M5 today. Will pick up later today. Good timing as we are expecting snow in the northeast tomorrow. I'll report back but it will be interesting to see how the car performs in the snow tomorrow. Previously I couldn't even get it out of my driveway with the faintest dusting of snow.

What wheels do you have? What tires and size did you get? I'm thinking of doing the same, but if I want a matched set to fit the 2TY (343M black) wheels I'm getting, I have to go with 265's all around. The only choice are Dunlops according to Tirerack. I'm not sure about fit or clearance issues.

I swapped on my winter tires last weekend, Bridgestone Blizzacks. The F10 does pretty well with good winter tires.

Here's a really good article about Winter Tires.

These guys put Winter Tires on a Ford Focus ST on used them on a racetrack in the middle of summer. The results were quite surprising.

I actually went with the BMW cold weather tire package. 408m rims. 9x19 Pirelli w240 sottozero s2 255/40R19 100v XL is what the web site says. I will get to try them out this afternoon on snow.

Interesting road and track article. I think if you live in the northeast you need a dedicated set of snow tires on the M5 unless you are prepared not to drive it in bad weather. That said I doubt I'm going to be driving it through 10 inches of fresh snow.

So I just drove through 1-2 inches of slush on the roads. Previous tires would have just spun as the car slowly drifted off the road due to the 1% incline. New snow tires were quite nice. Not sure if I would road trip with them during a storm but good for local driving. Also although I always manually shift I put the car in comfort drive logic mode which helped. Although I was in like 7'gear going 40....

I'm thinking about getting the Dunlop 265's all around for my 343M rims. Have you purchased them? I just want better tires in case I'm driving and it starts to snow. We have a X5 with snows, which is our primary vehicle if the weather is bad.
