The oil vacuum inlet is connected to the base on the intake, so intake replacement doesn't require any vacuum hose re-run. Sounds like my car has HKS SSQV BOV, lots of turbo swoosh and chirp. I doubt intake mods make any more power on a stock car, at least that you can feel. However, OP is right the turbos spool up much quicker. I'm sure it helps, the OEM setup with the charcoal panel and filter are very restrictive. After seeing the charcoal panel myself, I'm not sure how air even flow through it smoothly.

I bought the 175mm, so I'm probably going to swap them for 150mm as the 175 is too snug--it touches too many things I don't want it touching. |

Snorkel? I didn't remove anything other than the OEM filter cover. 150mm is perfect, but there's room for 175mm. Once you make the bracket, you can adjust the height you want so nothing touches.

Put some ribbon or similar material inside the airbox. Blow air from the outside with and without scoop. See the ribbon move with the airflow and compare |

I have been running these filters (150mm) for a couple of weeks, sounds great with a little more turbo and diverter noise than stock.
I have now modified the OEM filter housings (purchased some used complete units) so the fliters fit inside and have cut the fronts of the lower airbox halve out where they face the head lights. Now need to do some data logging with OEM, just ramairs and then the modified boxes with my 4 channel thermocouple / logger. Will be interesting to see if there is any change in air temps between the 3 setups. Last edited by ur20v; 05-14-2016 at 09:42 PM.. |

If you remove srorkel, it still drains but quicker as the water has less distance to travel, either way is fine as long as its not in your way if left fitted

However, unrelated to the intake mod, my car has been burning oil like a diesel. It only has 21k miles, yet burns through 4qt in the past 1k miles (nearly 1 qt per fuel up). I took it to the dealer, the dealer said the BMW service bulletin indicated 2.5qt for normal driving is normal. Any more is normal under heavy load. They also checked the oil level sensor, it's working fine. I say it's BS and I will get rid of my M5 very soon. The last time I checked, oil don't just evaporate into thin air and turn into water. Burnt oil leaves behind carbon and carbon build up = bad news later. My F85 X5M has 12k miles. Only 1/2 qt of oil since I've had it.

How strange, and worrying, sounds like you only just noticed, maybe changing the breather filter will sort, it's not normal for it to burn that much - don't give up especially as nothing comes close to one of these cars currently. Ramair's should help greatly
