Thanks. Is there a place which serves the world's best Black Forest Gateaux in the area? The Black Forest Gateau is one of my two favorite desserts (the other are Profiteroles).

"Best" is always subjective
A few places where you can get "authentic" and good "Schwarzwaelder Kirschtorte"

http://www.rebstock-oppenau.de/english.html
https://maps.google.de/maps?saddr=Sc...ra=ls&t=m&z=11

A little bit more "touristy"
http://www.mummelsee.de/en

https://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=S...ra=ls&t=m&z=13

or
http://www.hirsch-enztal.de/cafe-klosterle

Man thats easier than how I plotted it... I just went from Wolfach to Bad Rippoldau to Lichtental to Baden Baden to make sure my route stayed on the road...

If you are going to stop and eat, Stealth, just do it right: http://www.traube-tonbach.de/en/schw...ube-restaurant
Michelin 3-star with a fantastic chef.... had we had the time, we would have eaten here (or maybe Sattelei, a sister restuarant you have to alpine hike to).

Nice find, but they don't have the "Schwarzwaelder Kirschtorte" on the menu

I have only 3 driving days for my ED this year. we've already had our summer vacation so I'm going on my own for a quick trip.

I was hoping to do the Stelvio which I missed last year. However looking at the weather forecast for the first week of October, Stelvio has lows around 29-30, and highs in the mid-40s. So the question is will it really be drivable? If I don't do Stelvio, should I do another Alpine pass maybe closer to Munich, and then do the Black Forest High Road?

What would you advise?

you might get away with Stelvio but I'd have a backup plan just incase.

I think your itinerary is fantastic.. and that hotel you are staying at Tremezzo... wish I could have gotten in there... take a pic of your car on their car elevator.

I was 260km short... 1740 (or about 1080 miles). This was no problem.

I asked the same thing before I went. I think if you are over 1000 miles you will be fine.

The A92 towards Dingolfing (BMW plant) is often used by BMW for highspeed testing,
it goes off A9 past the airport
A95 towards Garmisch from Munich (and back) is a great stretch for a highspeed run
too

I did Stelvio last year and it was ok. Driving it alone is probably not as much fun as it has sharp turns and not having a "spotter" will cause you to go slower... Also on weekends/Friday it tends to get very busy and you may get stuck behind other cars/campers/bikes etc
I decided not to do Stelvio this time around (picking up 10/10) and rather do a number of the Swiss alp passes (Susten, Furka, St Gothard, Oberalp Pass, Grimsel Pass, etc) also plan to do the Silvretta pass again as it's a great stretch of road with perfect surface

The Black Forest road is great and certainly a better choice if the weather doesn't co-operate, also you'd be close to Stuttgart and could visit the Porsche Museum and Daimler, Audi etc
