There is a big launch event on 9/1. From a marketing stand point BMW wants to attract a lot of attention for the US Market. It's tough on customers but from a sales and marketing standpoint it makes good business sense. The wait will be worth it.

I gave up waiting and got Panamera GTS. Fantastic car. Nothing sounds even close to it. Not sure I am going to get my M5 now.

Well, it's unfair to the people who ordered these cars. Why is it ok to let their cars sit for a month at a port somewhere exposed to the elements unnecessarily? Give them their cars and let them enjoy (and garage) them already!

The sun will have zero effect on the HUD projector. Both of my E60 M5s have sat at the train station, 5 days a week, all day, year-round with no issues whatsoever.

That's good to know - thanks! I wonder how they engineered the projector to avoid direct sun damage.

I think the projector is actually protected under the dash and it projects the display off a mirror which reflects it onto the windshield.

This whole thing is frustrating. This is my first BMW. What is the point of being first in line if the only thing it means is that your car gets a suntan at port?

Getting more exposure for the M5 is apparently more important than satisfying the orders of those who have followed the M5 from early inception. Sounds like they could care less about their die hard early adopters. I'm getting the impression that BMW doesn't value M drivers. We even pay a hefty premium over the base models, yet get the newest enhancements last. I wanted an X5M a few years ago and one thing that drove me nuts was how the X5M still had the old orange looking headlight halo's, while the regular X5's had the newer, white ones.

Not to mention, I have a clunking sound from the rear springs to look forward to as BMW didn't feel it necessary to fix this before starting production.

One thing I liked about owning an AMG was access to their private lounge. You could actually interact with representatives and engineers. It was nice knowing that your concerns were read and responded to by the manufacturer.

When my car arrives stateside, if I am busy I will send my Dad to pick it up but I won't let it sit there.

This part sucks - I don't understand how come they didn't discover the problem with the rear coil springs before. I'm hoping that the 2013 cars have the new springs, and the December 2012 date is just for replacement springs for existing cars. I doubt this, but I'm trying to be optimistic...

I also wish they already started using the nicer DCT shifter with the P button, but I can live with the original shifter.

After feeling all of the U.S. Customers frustrations on here and other sources, I am glad that I orderd ED. Even though for those of us taking delivery in September our ED cars won't get back to the states until October, it feels good to know exactly when I'll be taking delivery of my M5.

+1 on knowing the exact delivery date. It sounds like an emotional roller coaster that your CA's are putting you through since they tell you it should be here every week.

There is something very special about knowing the day and time you will pick up your ED vehicle, BUT the 7-10 weeks waiting for redelivery is BRUTAL!

Not looking for sympathy here, but I'm going to be living vicariously through you guys once you get your cars. (subtle request for lots of posts once you have yours....)

Due to my business travel schedule, I've got my pickup on Oct 1. The re-delivery at the PCD takes longer 8-10 week. Basically makes the M5 a Christmas present once I get it here in the states. :-)

Yeah me too I am planning to drop off my car in Munich on Oct 10th. But I am really hoping to get my PCD done before Thanksgiving hah~ Maybe will trt to push them to ship my car sooner? Highly unlikely though...

Just received word from an area manager:
"The CARB release for the M5 and M6 will not take place this week. We are being told that it will be delayed until next week"

I'm guessing you're talking about the M6 coupe here as the dealership i'm buying my car from already has an M6 convertible....

Do we know what day next week or just by end of week? Also the CARB release is just for California. What about EPA release or does this happen at the same time as the CARB?

I don't see why deliveries in other states should be held up by California.

The area manager is based in north Florida. He also said he couldn't tell me anything more than "next week" and that sounded like the shortest amount of time the M5 will be delayed.
