Active Cruise on M5

Hi...

Does anyone know if Active Cruise is an option on the M5? I wasn't able to find it on any order sheet but I know sometimes people are successful in ordering options that are not on the order guide.

Any reason the F10 M5 doesn't have active cruise?

Thanks in advance!

only a guess, but the buttons on the steering wheel of a M5 have M1 and M2 on them and are used for other things. On non M5 where those M1 and M2 bittons are those for defining the distance to the car in front.

I've never noticed a M5 with the radar housing in the grill below the bumper.(Its a square thats sort of recessed below where the number plate would be)
In fact I've not noticed any cars otehr than my own that have ACC, seems a rare option at least in the UK - at least by my own observations

AP is correct. It's not an option on the M5 or M6. Firstly, the steering wheel doesn't have the button space to support the distance toggle. On my old F10 550 with ACC the distance toggle buttons were where M1 and M2 are now. (Though I'm sure they could get around this somehow.)

Second, the sensor would obstruct airflow in the front of the vehicle. That's why we have no fog lights, for example. That isn't to say they couldn't find a way to make it work, but they have chosen not to - and not just on the M5. I noticed on the F30 you can't add ACC with the M Sport package, and you also (again) lose fog lights.

What I do find curious though is that our instrument clusters actually have the indicators in them for ACC. There are 5 blocks in between the diagonal lines used to indicate that lane departure warning is active. The car symbol used by the collision avoidance system is also shared with ACC. It might be a cost-saving thing or perhaps wishful thinking for future.

I doubt it will be offered for the reasons stated above. Same deal on the M3 compared to the regular E9x 3ers: no fog lights (standard on the regular 3) and no ACC (optional on regular 3).

As for the instrument cluster, it's probably cost-saving since the M3 has the same ACC display on its instrument cluster. In fact I think the E39 M5 had a bunch of LEDs that pertained to options that were planned to be offered but got scrapped; they were even more noticeable and thus mysterious to owners.

It's not available. I doubt there was enough demand. Most M5 owners like to have direct control of the throttle. I know I do. I have never used the cruise control feature, forget about active cruise.

I was upset it didn't have ACC, but I actually have grown to like the Dynamic Cruise Control. When I was traveling in Germany (with European Delivery) i used it probably 80% of the time i was on the Autobahn - great way to slow down as well.

We met with the M5 engineers in September and airflow was main reason it is not on M5 (according to them).

After I took delivery of my M5 I *forgot* my car didn't have ACC. Good thing she has such big brakes!

Despite being a driver and loving manual control of my car, I still like driver aids from time to time on long highway drives. ACC is one thing I do miss.
