Great question not sure how it works but it intercepts the fuel timing and boost signal at the tmap sensors and remaps to give that extra 2.2 or so psi. Best bet is to ask Terry from Burger Motorsports...

I don't see how it can effect the timing , nor the fueling directly . It is simply changing the voltage the ECU sees coming from the TMap sensor . (The ECU sees a sensors reading in voltage ). The ECU then thinks the boost target has not been met and increases boost accordingly . There are 100's of other engine sensor readings the ECU is also looking at every fraction of a second . It recognizes the increased airflow and leaner AFR and adjust fueling and timing to compensate . It is effective but doesn't seem to be very consistent looking at the OP's dyno , and another JB4 M6 I saw dyno'd in Charlotte . The ECU knows something is wrong and is constantly trying to go back to stock targets . So you hit a real high torque value early in the rpm range then it drops like a rock when the ECU pulls timing . Especially on subsequent runs. Very crude way to increase power IMHO . But it's the only game in town due to our ECU encryption . The flash tunes available are all from a development file and are equivalent to CP tune.

I ran a "press tune" car and too thought it was equivalent to CP tune

Gas mileage and pretty much everything is unchanged! It's only stronger after 3k rpms. No torque limits yet. I'm content with the power for now till something like stage 2 comes out...

Does the unit need to plugged in and ignition switched in order to communicate with the unit?

Mine is sitting on my desk and I'm trying to change to scaling parameter...but I keep getting a "can not find JB3" error.

Using a Win8 laptop with Sabrent USB to RS-232 converter.

Thanks,
Tom

They have a proprietary cable that you have to use with it. http://www.burgertuning.com/USB_Cable_Extension.html

It says on the instructions must connect to laptop n change future use to 1 is the only way to do that with Terry's 40 dollar cable or whatever?

SmH at Burger for not putting that you NEED the USB cable FROM them to actually change the function to one for the m5...

Basically I have a 400 coster until I get that

Quote:
For S63 models (M5) you must also connect your laptop [only with our cable] to the Stage1 control box using the Stage1 software posted on n54tech and change "FutureUse" to 1. This tells the Stage1 to compute based on S63 3.5 BAR TMAP sensors rather than the normal 2.25 BAR TMAP sensors the N63 uses.
Note for pump gas we suggest the 2.25psi default setting. If using racing fuels up to 3psi can be set. We do not suggest using E85 mixtures or higher than 3psi settings with the N63/S63 platform at this time due to fueling limitations.
Would have been helpful to have that posted before you order or *next to seeing models plus buy the USB cable with the unit for optimal results

400 beans isn't very much on a 89k base car... So you're 450 in the hole with the cable. Any other competing product will cost you 5 times that.

You can always sell it!

I wasn't complaining about the price. (I buy dinan parts on my other bmws) I was complaining it was a setback that could have been avoided simply by laying everything out before purchasing on their part.

PTF has extra BMS cables for me glad I don't have to order one

Yeah I felt a difference. Today I got a drivetrain malfunction light and check engine grumbles before resetting the car then it cleared all systems ok and no code stored.

Still not sure what to do take it off and stay stock... Honestly it doesn't bother me.
