While I was waiting hundreds of other cars passed and they were all fine.

So my first argument is that if this is an exception and generally speaking an M5 should be able to handle this situation then it is BMW's responsibility as it is an exception to the norm of the performance of an M5. This case I deem unlikely.
My second argument is that every M5 is not fit to perform under these conditions, then it is BMW duty to inform the owners at purchase that this is the case. This type of rain is not uncommon in New Jersey. Again, all other cars performed fine. In the absence of such cautionary note, the repair is BMW responsibility. This latter scenario I believe is the case.

But right now all that I am upset is the fact that it is likely that I lost my car that I really really grew fond of and that pretty much ruined my holiday weekend.

Uh, I suspect it was a bit deeper than a "rain puddle" to hydro the engine. Sorry to hear this; I hydro'd an e46 so I feel your pain.

They always said the F10's were boats. I never thought somebody would take that statement literally. Kidding! Hopefully insurance will fix this timely.

Wow, just a quick update. No ///M car since Thursday night. I am ///M deprived and I tell you, cold turkey is nothing compared to it. But seriously, I am quite surprised at the profound sadness that I am feeling. Thought "it's just a car". The flowers in the garden have lost their cent, food doesn't taste the way it used to any more. Alcohol still works only much more is required now ...

No loaner from BMW until tomorrow (thank you, Frank for an always great customer service), insurance won't look at my Singapore Bird until Wednesday or Thursday. How long am I supposed to endure this.

Help me out, folks!

Update: Frank, my service advisor at Princeton BMW, who has always been great, now put me in a neat little ActiveHybrid 3. It's sort of the opposite of the spectrum from an M5 but I actually like the super low profile ride. It's surprising how much smaller this car feels inside and out.

Well, after all, BMW service is again superior. Confidence way restored and very much looking forward to appointment with insurance later this week.

Still no news. Geico is asking a lot of questions. Starting to like the Active Hybrid 3 (what??????).
Completely confused as to the mental stage. There was a moment when I thought "ah, what the heck, maybe this is HIS way of telling me to get into an F80." And then I really miss my car again. We were just at the beginning of our relationship ;-)
So I am really hoping that they will just simply give me a new engine and ignition system (maybe map it a tad more aggressive too ;-) and I am back on cruise in no time.

I guess I will miss MPact, though ;-((( Was so looking forward to it.

Post back on how Geico handles this... I've had Geico for like 10 years but never made a claim before.

In front of me was MB E350 and around mostly regular sedans. If the M5 is not fit to handle this kind of weather than the owners need to be instructed.

Now I am really upset!

I will keep you posted.
Sounds like it was more than a puddle. Probably an insurance claim, not BMW's fault if you drove it through water.

(H), I feel so bad about what happened to your car. Sounds like the engine hydro locked. I wish there was something I could do to make you feel better. How about we catch up sometime and just shoot the $hit. Let me know, I am game.

Good luck on your car situation. Sometimes it helps talking about it to help ease the pain. Drinks are on me .

Regards,
Raj
