Unlock all doors when ignition off?

The only thing that drives me nuts about this car, is that when I turn the car off, the other 3 doors on the car stay locked. Add the fact that the door lock button is in the middle of the car, it's a pain in the ass. Every other vehicle would unlock the doors when the vehicle was off/in park.

Can this be done without coding?

I agree, it's one of the most annoying things about owning a BMW/Mini. I'm not aware of how to change it without coding.

I had my car coded a few weeks ago and that solved this problem. Honestly that was probably the main reason for having my car coded by V12. So many times I'd forget something in the trunk and my keys were in the house. I'd come out and I'd have to open the car to hit the trunk release button. No longer.

Thanks. Rich and I are going to be setting up an appointment soon, but was curious if it was only modified via coding.

What a weird setting by BMW.

what do u mean guys??? in US you dont have that option?

you go to settings
then you find a submenu with "...locks"
and then you choose wether you want only driver's door to unlock or all 4 doors to unlock

and why you guys need all 4 doors to unlock? if you need to pick up something from back seat, you pull the door handle with key in your pocket and door unlocks anyway!

Most people, at least here, don't lock the car when it's in the garage.

When I am in the car, I take the key out of my pocket and put it in the "holder" near the cup holders. It's not comfortable to keep in my pocket whilst driving.

we are all different, no other explanation

i only see my key before i leave home and once i am back and definitely know i am not leaving tonight anymore, then i take my key out after i lock my car with touch of a finger on the door handle, i press lock button on the key to activate this "extra protection" on alarm and alarm light stays on for couple of seconds

never touch my key during day

Really? When I lock the doors on my car and press the remote it deactivates interior sensors. (eg. if you have a dog in your car).

Do you have any documentation on this "extra protection"? I've always seen that pressing the remote lock after the car is locked deactivates the internal sensor.

basically if you press lock button 2nd time straight away and you get red light in rear-view mirror stay on for couple of seconds, in case someone would break your window, he wont be able to open the door from inside

you can test it yourself
lock the car with 1 or all windows open, get your hand inside the car from outside and pull the door handle from inside, it will unlock the door with first pull and will open it with second pull, obviously keep the key far away from the car

now do the same, after red light comes on and stays there for couple of seconds, you wont be able to unlock the door from inside.

i have just realised that if somebody would break a window, they can try to open it with a center console button, but i am not sure it is going to work. will test it today

i dont have any documentation, just my observation and i sleep better at night, if i "lock it twice".
i am sure if one reads the manual, there is something about it

let me know if you find any info on that

Are you sure that is extra protection? My understanding is when you press it after locking and the light stays on a little it disables the internal sensors (for when you leave windows open)

This works. Should solve the OP's problem as long as the car is not set to lock doors when driving (which can also be turned off via iDrive).

I always do for the simple reason that I want the computer turned off that minute/no more battery drain.

I agree with this. Not as big an issue if you drive a fair amount every day on the highway but for those of us in the city this is a problem for all new BMWs that don't really shut down completely unless locked.

not extra protection but...

Switching off the tilt alarm sensor and
interior motion sensor

Press the remote control button (lock) again
within 10 seconds as soon as the vehicle
is locked.
The indicator lamp lights up for approx. 2 seconds
and then continues to flash.
The tilt alarm sensor and interior motion sensor
are switched off until the vehicle is locked
again.
