I understand if you prefer to row gears...as I did in every car prior to my M3....but the DCT is and will always be the superior gearbox, in every aspect.
That depends on how you define superior. DCT will never be more fun or engaging than a traditional manual.

Strawman argument. I am not talking about ABS, power steering, power windos, power seats, navigation and VANOS. I am talking specifically about automatic transmission. I also acknowledge DCT in superior in terms of lap times or shift times.

I DO like updates such as innovative engine pieces (valvetronic, vanos, direct injection, efficient turbos..etc) that don't interfere with driver's involvement and DO NOT like the ones that do such as electronic drive by wire. I like ighter, better suspension, more torsional rigidity, better brakes, efficiency, aero ...etc.

I will be surprised if they sell more than 10 six speed m5 lol. Seems like a waste to me but, I guess having a choice is cool.

Not every aspect. It will not always be the superior gearbox when it comes to reliability based on how complex a DCT is. I've read about some of the issues a few of the M3 and 135 DCT guys have had on these forums. There have been cars refusing to shift into certain gears, or refusing to shift at all and remain in park. I prefer a car that doesn't decide on when I can or can't shift, or even drive the car at all for that matter. In theory, a DCT should be the better transmission for track driving, but I've read cases of cars from a few manufacturers go into limp mode because of the DCT overheating. How is that superior?

Happy about the fact that they are giving us options - they are releasing it properly this time from the beginning. This car is destined to be a huge winner for BMW. I wonder how this new engine will respond to the MT. I will always be a manual driver but after owning the 135i I found that 6MT turbo charged engines are really hard to control and blip/downshift properly. Can't wait to hear reviews.

He means nothing just complaining - I don't understand the problem with an e-brake. I am just pumped that they are giving us a MT.

Either way guys, at least you have the freedom to choose which transmission you want

Wish BMW would develop a 7 speed manual like Porsche has with the new 911

The e-brake is a bit of a let down. Have you ever done a fast turn where

This car's weight is in line with a 7 series - the last thing I want to do is do a power slide with hand brake ... I barely do it on the Porsche, more fun to just drift using the steering wheel and gas pedal when the roads are just lightly wet.

Anyone find it a bit ironic that the Europeans tout themselves as the better drivers/car enthusiasts, but seemingly have no interest in a 6mt M5?

M5 was only sold with a non manual for the first time in 2005 in the E60.

The car was built as a sports car first, sedan second. It makes perfect sense that the car has a manual transmission in it. This is what this car is built for.

The 550i is a perfect car for an automatic transmission. Manual for me please!

Why is it a silly comment?

Just because he states a preference doesn't mean you have to disparage him.
