Wtf on our way to the ring. Am stuck in Wurtzburg waiting for the dealer to open tomorrow. Had to get fladbedded from the fwy. Driving an audi on my ED experience.
Any suggestions.......

Oh yes and driving totally within break-in guidelines

Update 9/3: Left cylinder bank problem so far. Still in Wurtzburg waiting to hear exactly what is going on. BMW is definitely on top of it. I got a call from Munich telling me what was wrong while I was still in the dealer.

Update 9/4: Still no new info. Still doing diagnostics. I think my engine is gone. It shouldn't take this long to "diagnose"? BMW is being very nice trying to help make the best of the situation. They gave me a frozen black M5 for the duration of my trip but I leave in the am. Bummer could of had a broken in M5 for 2 weeks.

Update 9/6: Need a new engine! Getting a new car. No details yet just waiting. Head if BMW ED is on vacation and it was a short week. I'm expecting BMW will make it right. There are several ways that could be accomplished.

Update 9/12: Things are starting to look up.....I got a new production # expecting mid Nov delivery in Ca.

Stay tuned. Long day trip back to the west coast without a status of my car.

Call BMW right away. I am sure they will lend you a car from BMW On Demand. In fact if you can get back to the Welt just rent an M5 from on demand, and ask them to reimburse you. I suspect your car may be out for a few days.

Sorry to hear this! Follow above and call your CA and, most important, call BMWNA's ED department. I had a new M5 catch on fire the day of delivery in Garmisch and was in the same situation you are. The fact it's Labor Day tomorrow isn't gonna help

BMW will make it right; save all your receipts (meals, hotels, flatbed, etc.)

The insurance they give you provided me with an A6 rental and a hotel while I wait to hear tomorrow.

Too far from Munich - about 300km away.

Okay. But be sure to call the Welt tomorrow and talk to an ED specialist. If they can't help call Simone.

I have heard instances in the past where they just give you an equivalent car so you still get the M5 experience in Europe.

Barry: What a Bummer. I will be at Welt at 8:00am picking mine up. Maybe I'll see you there getting your loaner. If I were you, I would drive back to Munich tonight, as they will be in the best position to make it right.

Otherwise, They will probably drive a car up to you, but you will have burned an extra 1/2 day.

In my experience, and another troubled ED'er the Welt is limited in their assistance. Best to work the issue from BMWNA's ED dept - Simone is as good a place to start as any. It's very unfortunate BMWNA will be closed tomorrow but your dealer may be able to get some action over the Holiday.

BMW AG didn't have another M5 to loan me when mine decided to spontaneously combust in Garmisch P

Hope they have you on your way soon. Glad BMW is on top of it. Are you still at the dealer or doing some tourism?

I've tried to get Munich involved so it's good to see they're on top of this.

Best regards,

Hope things get worked out and you can enjoy the car for a few days at least.
Great to see Southlight help as well as he probably some good inroads with BMW DE
(I hope I don't need his assistance when I pick up mine )

Well I'm pretty much fucked. Had to leave my car and don't know exactly what is going on other than I was told to go back to Munich. Didn't plan a euro delivery to be at a BMW service dept and drive an Audi for 3 days!
I have a feeling there is more to the story. I just have to wait. Hopefully the guys at the M studio tomorrow can shed some light.
I'm bummed would have rather paid the 60euro, ledt the car at the Welt and flew straight back home than deal with this.
Very stressful and sorry for the rant .....

So sorry to hear Barry

Hope the visit to M Studio proves informational (about your car) and still somehow enjoyable tomorrow.

This is really awful. I imagine like us you had a tightly scheduled vacation with multiple cities to visit and sights to see. You've probably lost 2 days of holiday.

I'm trying to imagine what I would do if this happens to us. My takeaway is ditch the car at a dealership, get a rental and carry on without the car.

On the positive side, if this was going to happen, I would rather it be fixed in Germany with the involved supervision of BMW HQ than fixed by my local dealership by themselves.
