Rear Brake Service - 2013 M5

I recently got a notice on idrive that says I need rear brake pads replaced. I called an independent German shop that specializes on higher end cars and he said that the rear rotors would need to be replaced and the entire job would cost $1100! My car has 47k miles on it and just doesn't seem right that the rotors need to be replaced so soon. The pads have never been replaced so I understand I'll need to replace them.

Anybody have experience with this? I also wanted to change the rear pads to EBC red stuff for lower dust. Can I just replace the pads or do I really need new rotors? Thanks!

Hi I just went through this and had to replace my rear pads. I called 3 shops and all of them said the rotors will need to be replaced too, due to the compound of the rotors being soft and it creating a lip. I wasn't so sure myself, but ended up getting rear rotors and could definitely tell the difference between the new one and the old one. There was def a lip on the old one and was not as smooth. Granted the car worked fine with the old set up, I can see why the recommend changing it.

All 3 shops were trying to charge me $400-600 just for one rotor. But I ordered from bmwpartspros.com here on the vendor forums and they were able to get me 2 rotors for $400. OEM ones too.

The shop who I went to before charged me one hour and also installed my spacers. Let me know if you have any other questions. I'm at 60K miles

I recently had rear pads only changed at the dealer. They measured the rotor thickness and said I dont need to replace rotors yet. How can that shop say you need new rotors if they havent looked at the car?

That?s exactly what I was thinking. I?m Going to have a local shop check the thickness with a free brake inspection.
