Anybody here seriously considering trading in their F10 M5 for an F82 M4...

...or do M5 owners still consider the M3/M4 to be too boy-racer-ish for the gentlemen racer?

I'm not going to lie, my interest has been peaked, but the two things that kind of deter me from the F82 M4 are the exhaust note and the interior styling. The interior styling for the same reasons why I don't like the 6-Series/M6 interior styling, I can't get over the stand alone iDrive screen design.

But the exhaust note is what really worries me. We already have people saying that with an exhaust and perhaps cat delete the F82 M4 will remind them of the the E36 M3 S52 engine but with turbo whine. I never grew up liking/desiring the S52 powerplant and therefore has no special place in my heart, although I understand the racing heritage behind it. My world has always been dominated by ///M V8's and ///M V10's.

So will the more aggressive styling, greater torque, extremely well balanced handling, and drastically reduced weight of the F82 M4 do it for me? I dunno, but again, it has sure peaked my interest.

How do other E60 M5/E63 M6 or F10 M5/F13 M6 owners feel about it?

This is a good question. IMO you have M3(4) drivers and M5(6) drivers. Take cost out of the equation. I'm 33 and at this point in my life I have no desire to ever buy another M3(4). Its a awesome car and I love them, but the M5 suits me better. If I could have my way, I would like to keep owning M5's and have something ridiculous to take out occasionally. So to me, for a person who owns a M5, even a E60, to get out of it to get the M3, I would be surprised. Or perhaps you have enough money to buy both...In that case, thats awesome, Rock on.

Thought about it Dave...but I think that if I want to go with a more driver-oriented experience I am going to go GT3 for sure. That said though, I will attend the launch event for the M3 next year...nothing like some track time in a new M-car to see what it is capable of

If you own money, you can go. Or so I "think."

I think you will have to drive it, to make the decision. Im looking forward to the test drive, when it arrives. The biggest difference will be the size, handling, and the agility of the car, compared to the M5. It will probably be similar in 0 - 60 mph times, as the M5, but i would expect the M5 to walk away after that, with its massive torque and power, but who knows, does anyone know the PTWR yet ?. As mentioned above, the new GT3, is probably the car to be looking at, but you are then moving to a more singularly focused car again, as in, its all about speed, cornering and track times, whereas, the M5 is an all rounder, speed, comfort , quality and usability, as will be the new M4. So, i suppose its best to hold fire, and see how the M4 turns out.

Dave is exactly right. Part with some $, fly to wherever the event is held and drive the car on a track. Bada boom bada bing! The two that I have attended were fantastic. M-Power event 2011 in Sevilla, Spain (M5 launch) and M-track day 2013, Austin TX (M6GC). Watch the boards, and you'll see someone post the details. I have heard June next year across the pond, but don't quote me on that

great question. I've thought about this too. I think the m3 will look hot. but this is how I would look at it. When I walk into my garage and I see my m5 my M3, which car would I drive? Is there ever a situation that I would choose the M3? For me that answer is always gonna be no.

Looked at a different way, Let's say the M3 is Megan Foxx. Sure she'd be nice to get into and throw around every now and then. But live with her? nah.

Of course if I could have both, sure. but that wasn't the question.

Interesting responses. I think on paper the M4 looks very special. Torque and power from the recent turbo engines in a more reasonable weight and handling package. If I don't end up with a GT3, the M4 will be a serious contender for me.

I love the torque of the F10, but it's too heavy <period>

The way I am feeling about the weight of my M5 at the moment, Schwarzenegger in drag !

M4 looks quite appealing.

I was wracking my brain about who the m5 would be too. only ones I thought of were more mature chicks like kate beckinsale, Giselle, Elizabeth Hurley during Austin powers times.
