I left my parking lights on.....

Annoyingly, the car just plays the bong noise; same as the one when you park in Neutral.... And again only once...
- So that explains how it happened... but....

I ran the battery flat....
- dash worked; but not enough juice to fire the startrer motor.

Now my sunroof won't auto close on the remote (nor completely retract when the sunroof button is held).
- any ideas?

Also; shouldn't the car save power and switch the parking lights off?

with thanks in advance
p

You're only option (to my knowledge) is to get a car battery charger from your local auto store. Connect it to a mains socket and attach it to the mounting points on the car and leave it overnight. Should be fine after that, especially if you go on a drive as the alternator will charge the battery as well. Always worked for me so hope it helps

I thought that the newer BMWs turned itself off when anything is left on for a certain period of time?

Nope. They don't. At least not with regard to parking lights.

I would imagine as it was Parking lights, a safety aspect could be involved so NOT switching them off, just a thought.

If you leave the light switch in the parking lights position the lights will stay on even if you close and lock the car, but if you leave the light switch in the full headlights on position, the car will shut off all the lights even if you close and lock the car. A little weird I know, but it's the way the Germans think. I've accidentally left the headlight switch in the full on position before and I was pleasantly surprised that the car turned everything off anyways. So at least there's that.

Why are they called parking lights? If you leave parking lights on while parked, the battery runs flat? Lol
