Filter change time

Well, I think the rainy season is over here in Socal, so time to change out the K&N filters...its been a few months now.

Took about 30 minutes, but its a tight fit with the diagonal bars in the way, and you have to make sure the filters sit in all the way flush. Its the compromise you make when you choose a front-mount filter system like RK autowerks.

What do you think about the RK silicone elbow? Mine tends to crimp and it looks lime it is restricting airflow.

Part number for replacement?

Why change them out, aren't those oil filters that can be cleaned and re-oiled? Or did you just have a second set to do a quick swap and clean, store the old one.

Yes, these are not disposable to me lol. I just did not want the downtime for drying. I will clean and oil the old filters and have them ready to replace these in a few months.

Concerning the silicone elbow, I dont think it does restrict flow. Of course the round shape becomes oval as it goes through the bend area, but its not crimped in any way, so the overall inner flow area doesnt decrease. I had done a before(charchoal delete+BMC filters)/after dyno and gained about 20whp; same dyno (EAS), but different days due to time.

Wait a minute. Are you saying you gained 20 rwhp with these intakes versus the stock system + charcoal delete + BMC filters? Not to question you, but can you share the dyno charts both before and after?

Okay, thanks for sending. I must have been living under a rock to not see these before. But, to be factual, the total gains from MSIXCARBON was 16 rwhp when compared to stock + charcoal delete + BMC filters. That equates to about a total of 17-18 bhp.

I do love the looks and sound of the intakes!

Yes I know...the 38whp was vs a stock airbox setup, according to his thread.

Still impressive numbers for just an intake. Do you have other downstream mods like down pipes and larger exhaust? Or are all the mods in your signature? Thanks again for sharing your experience.

Thanks for sharing the pictures. Did you just take the filters off when you cleaned them, or did you take the charge pipes off as well? I installed my RK kit, but I can't remember if it would be possible to just take off the filters when cleaning time comes. Also, is yours daily driven?

I only took off the filters. Yes its my daily driver; its even parked outside most of the time lol.

I'm not ruling out the blitz filters, but come cleaning time, take pics of the inside of the filters. K&N can filter particles better than those blitz, and that trumps sound, for me.

Yes, I agree about the K&N's having superior filtering abilities. I may have went a little overkill, as I also have the water blankets on my RK Autowerke intake setup. I do feel the RK system made somewhat of difference because the tires break loose than what I previously remember. Still fighting the urge to tune until warranty expires.
