6MT owners: How do you like it?
I own a E90 M3 6MT, and I'm switching to a F06 M6 GC. I figured I'll get more answers from M5 owners than M6 owners regarding my questions for a 6MT on the platform.
1. I keep reading that the 6MT is a bit "aloof". It's not really matched well with the motor and out of character on such a big car. It appears also difficult to drive smoothly. What's your take on this? 2. What modes is auto-rev match available on? I read that it's on all the time unless it's in Sport+ mode. Is that correct? 3. Do you have any other complaints or know of any defects in the transmission? I know for the M6 GC, a 6MT is like a unicorn. Just not sure if it's worth holding out for.

I owned a M6GC. Answers, in my experience, follows:
1-not really. If you hammer on it, it's a blast and you can be very engaged. It was not difficult to drive at all as long as you re a 3 pedal guy with experience. So if your used to 3 Ps, don't hesitate. 2- your correct, rev match off only in sport plus. 3-no issues. Good luck in your search. I just got lazy and dealing with 3 Ps in traffic got annoying, so I parted ways. No other real reason. Car was badazz. Quote:

I have a 6MT M5, as well as an F10 535i in 6MT. The M5 manual and clutch are far smoother than the 535i, and the M5 is an absolute blast to drive. I never understood the negative reviews the 6MT has received, when compared to DCT. If you enjoy a manual transmission, you will be happy with a 6MT M6.
I ordered my M5 in July, with a September build. I bet I have one of the last M5 6MT's in captivity, as there were only 88 USA M5 built after mine. I wanted to have an M5 with a stick, and when I heard they were discontinuing the manual with the next generation M5, I ordered the exact car I wanted. No regrets at all. My M5 is the most enjoyable car I have ever driven. Regards, Danny Last edited by Chesie; 01-29-2017 at 01:23 PM.. |

I love mine. Not quite as fun as E60 M5 stick due to turbo lag but a blast none the less.

Nice, can't wait to get mine. I got to wait for the right one to come up (preowned). It's a rare combo as I'm looking for CP, 6MT, and possibly individual color
