Any common failures or things to look for on used F10?

Still shopping for an F10. Any common frequent expensive repairs or issues they have? Any problem areas to inspect? Example is the common issues if e9x 335i water pumps die at 75k needing $1200 repair, hpfp on same needing $2000 repair, e9x m3 needing valves done at i0k. Etc. Thx. Just trying to factor this onto my cost of ownership and avoid buying a repair thats needed.

Also interested in hearing this. Also wonder what maintenance costs are. So after the first 4 years, how much do maintenance cost?

Judging by your signature, you should just get a spare motor, diff/mount & axles. Value pack of spark plugs, and o2 sensors.

A small percentage seem to have excessive oil consumption, in earlier models it seems. If I were to purchase 2013MY and modify (based on your sig OP you will not leave car alone) I'd look into fresh coils/plugs. Front brakes may squeal.

But f10 m5 engine/trans seems pretty robust. I've had nothing but oil changes to date with 28k miles (I bought it at 18k miles).

Thanks. I plan on tune, downpipes, exhaust tint, laser jammers, wheels and tires, and maybe some cf external bits. Really not much else. New performance clutches if needed. Planning on keeping the e93 so i have my fun maniac stick convertible. This is the highway cruiser for work. Figure about 700 hp/tq and call it a day. No over the top builds this time.

Good to hear there aren't many common failures. I plan on many miles mostly at highway speed on cruise. Just the occasional butt whooping given to stray a audi or mb.

Planning on a 2014 with competition and executive packages to start. Other options possibility depending on the car. Figure I'm going to kill the car with miles so let someone else eat most of the depreciation.

My 13 F10 M5 had several issues already mentioned (Oil consumption, power steering failure, brake noise and a drivetrain malfunction that required a visit to dealer). I now have a 15 F10 M5 and have had zero issues. The first car was stock and the current car has been modded as stated in my signature.

IMO, the 13 MY aside, these cars are durable in factory form but can be become more complicated depending on the level of modding you plan on doing, if any.

Good luck.

Some of the older cars i tested had terrible vibration on the steering wheel. M5's have some vibrations in general but some had more than others. Just something to check out while you're test driving. Its not a huge deal but annoying and sometimes hard to chase down the real issue.

I have the same setup E92 Coupe M3 and got the 13' M5 for work in DC. Driving over an hour a day in traffic has its gripes.

In 4500 miles and its CPO its been in a few times.

-The camera that tracks proximity behind the rear view mirror has failed multiple times and was replaced.
-Got a drive train malfunction 3x in a day took it in and it was a bad spark plug. Mind you the set was just replaced less than a month before.
-Brakes squeak...nothing you can do.
-Get FATTER TIRES... 295 wont grip at all.
-It will burn oil just like the M3 but a bit more... I have seen a quart every 1100 miles.
-Pull the wheels and wax them 2x. Brake dust is a real issue.
-DCT takes some getting used to in traffic very jerky.
-GET CPO as I did really worth it. Im coming up on 50k and will extend the Maint plan 1/yr 25K miles less than 2K.

Other than those whims its a blast to drive...especially the Launch control.

How much FATTER to get them? I'm running 295 in the rear.

2012+ is very robust, similar failures and rates across the model years.
