Cost of new M5 key (F10)
Unfortunately my 2011 550i was involved in a total loss.
Fortunately I replaced it with a 2013 M5 I purchased it from a non BMW dealer that had only one key. I still have my old 550i keys (both had comfort access), does anyone know if I can program the old keys for the new if not how much in a new M5 key? Thanks! |

I think in '11 they used a different type of FOB than the newer ones.
The '13 is the one on the far left; the '11 is the one in the middle. I don't know if the older and newer share the same tech, and thus can be programmed as one another. Only BMW can tell you.

The key in the middle was my key from my 2006, 2008, and 2010 E60 M5. I miss that key.. it was small, perfect size, and did everything my F10 M5 key does.
I don't know why they had to make the F10 M5 key so bulky. Annoying.

The keys are getting a bit more slim.... my wifes 2014 X5 has the new key and its about as slim as the keys from the E60 M5.... although a little longer and wider. definitely better than the key form the F10.

When I returned my E60 M5 and picked the F10 M5 up I was surprised they changed the key from something decent to something bulky and not cool. Then I just forgot about it. Looking at the F15 X5's key makes me think BMW should of made a special key for M models. Just a thought.. I wonder if you could get an E60 M5 key or if something changed in the key, a F15 X5 M50D key to work with the F10 M5.

Help: I just assumed the lease of a car and have only one key. The dealer wants to charge me 200 USD to program the key (it has comfort access). There has to be a better way right?

This is not true. All F10 models including the 2011 have used the same key (at least the same physical key design).

My favorite key of all my cars so far has been the Lexus credit card key.
