She's dechromed...

Took her back out to Tint FX in Fairfax, VA where I had her tinted.

They plastidipped my grills and gills in a satin finish, and vinyl wrapped my chrome door handle inserts in a matching satin black.

They also applied a dark vinyl tint to the front and rear orange/red reflectors - they're effectively gone on my az black M5. You can't tell there are reflectors there without looking for them.

It came out fantastic - I didn't realize you could get a finish this smooth from plastidip. The beauty of it is that it was very inexpensive, and is entirely reversible.

Pictures (car is dirty):

More pix to follow when the long lost sun comes back out and I give her a bath.

Nice! I also love the flecks of metallic blue in the paint from the up close shots!

I have black chrome individual equip on my FB M5. Basically everywhere possible.

I think black chrome would look very good on AzB. Gloss black second to that. But, I believe only the front grills are available as an M Performance Part and the black chrome side gills are individual equipment only and not available.

Something to consider if you get tired of the plasti-dip. The dipped side gills look good, but the front grilles clash somewhat (gloss vs matte). Also IND sells AzB paint matched side reflectors.

I thought about gloss - most ppl voted gloss in my poll the other day also, but I'm a fan of the satin finish, so went that way.

Nope. They didn't even remove the grills or gills. I asked about and they were like "don't worry dude we got this". They were right.

Satin black looks good, nice change from the usual gloss finish.

Here's another pic - she still needs a bath, but you get the effect I've achieved. Dirty wheels look like they're a matte bronze. lol

I wonder what they could do to the face of my wheels. I'd like them to get rid of the machined face with a similar grey like the color in the wheel hub.

About 2 hrs, costed 175. They do all four wheels for 150. Thinking about it - since it's easily reversible.

i might try and it myself when the weather warms up a bit. plasti doesn't like to applied when its cold (or a heated garage will do). you can also apply a plasti glossifier for an anti-matte look. dhirm, if you are thinking about doing it, just make sure they put 5+ layers of coat. too few and thin layers makes it a real tough time to remove.
