i have been told from a multi-BMW-dealership-owner that the new M5 will be AWD with upwards of 700hp so that goes along well with what you have been told.

Main reason purists are against awd is due to added weight.

A victory for those with more money then driving skill, those who can't control a powerful rwd vehicle. If snows where you live, get an x5m or rs6

If I want a heavy awd with drive train power loss at higher speeds, I would buy an rS6 or the new E63s AMG - both of which sound a lot better then the m5 anyway.

Looks like I'll be jumping boat to Mercedes
Agree with you but the point is that BMW no longer look at the 5 series as sport car. It's most likely the step down (sizewise) of 7 series for people are not looking for a very big sedan so they don't care about weight that much they cared for E60. I believe the E60 was the last generation of a real sport 5 series. F10 and G30 and future generations are luxury sedan. With that said having the switchable AWD with more power and torque will be necessary to build a great competitor for MB E AMG and Audi S6/RS6 and even Porsche Panamera T/TS. I mean BMW must have a car in lineup for competition and you know X5M or X6M are not in that category of Sedan cars...

No this is definitely wrong information because they do not have such an engine and transmission/differential matched for that power. The next M5/M6 will have the same S63 engine with different map. Most likely the one is installed on 2016/2017 M6 CP and M5 30 Jahre.

I just read today from an unconfirmed source that the next M5 won't hit dealership floors until early 2018 or about 1 year from now. No idea whether or not the first model year for the next M5 will be available world wide in early 2018 or if BMW will release for the U.S. at a later time like they did with both the E60 M5 and the F10 M5. Full info release on the next M5 should be around September 2017 time frame to coincide with the Frankfurt Autoshow.

Thats what I exactly expect. M5 will hit Europe market late summer time and then 5-6 months later in US.

I think the new M5 will be bigger, faster and lighter. However it is a large car but is great for family stuff and its proper fast. So contemplating a move to Germany to enjoy it.

If I am going down for getting a car for power or midlife crisis I will get a 911 TT or the new M4 (not out yet) and a mistress. lol

Than again at that point I would not care what others think.

I found the comment interesting too (because the way I read it was to just enjoy the car to it's full capability on the Autobahn).

Out of curiosity, why did you suggest that he reconsider?

I watch the news daily. Thank you.

If you're referring to the terrorist attacks, we've had our share here in the US as well. Not trying to make light of any incidents worldwide but it's starting to become too frequent an occurrence.

Now let's get back to the F90 topic.

you certainly have. however Germany is doomed with a leader whos determined to destroy their country by flooding it with muslim migrants, while you have a patriot who's vowed to keep those verminous barbarians out.

you sure dodged a bullet there.

It will be AWD with RWD push button but I doubt close to 700hp more over the 600hp range maybe even 626hp.

Keeping 700nm as the maximum (as per the current 600hp CP) all the way to 6500rpm would see the engine producing 639hp without requiring any further work to the gearbox. 639hp from 6500 to 7000rpm would be quite nice and still enough above the E63 S and current RS6/7, but we don't know for sure what the next RS6/7 will bring just yet - and that will be released about the same time as the M5.

Didn't Scott26 confirm that the new M5 will be using an updated DCT transmission after people started asking why upshifts sounded like ZF8 farts on the Nurburgring videos? Maybe this updated transmission will be capable of handling much more torque/horsepower.

My 2015 M5 lease is up and I hopped into a 2017 M3 which I'm picking up wednesday. I love the current F10 M5 and I would have gotten another one if they were available but the next crop of G30 5 series doesn't strike me in the same way as the F10 does. Hopefully by the time my M3 lease is up the next M5 LCI will be out.

Car will definitely not have 700 HP, and honestly that much power in a 4k lbs car. I have tracked a M5, and M6 both pigs in slop and will eat up the tires. Not sure how many buyers will use them on the track, it's fun to win the pissing contest with a lot of power but most capable drivers will not take a M5 to the track.

Now proper usage a great cruiser with a lot of power, and you take the kids to school to be the cool dad/I'm driving to lunch at work. I will consider owning a M5 again if it has a AW drive option because it can't put the power down which is useless. These HP wars will end one day as you get closer to 700 HP, and even 600 HP you will run into less capable drivers dragging on the interstates. HP is to be appreciated and not abused like some of the freeway racers. M5 is a beautiful car mind you, but for a track purposes totally useless as I would say for any 4 door heavy car. A full track day in this car would chew up all 4 tires, and I will not even cover the brakes stopping these high power machines. So let's keep it real a few days at a car shoe to chat it up with the boys, and date night with the wives. It's ok boys, but let's stop pretending these are race cars they are not. One item they should remove from the car is launch control it was poorly designed, and over heats/ruins the transmission which BMW tell you in the manual. Personally I like the rush of the power, and the M quality of the car vs. non M cars. Not to piss on anyone's thunder, but when I see the AMG, M, and Audi R owners the cars stay spotless and have never been braked hard.

Enjoy date night, and dropping the kids off because I do(:

I agree with you on the launch control. The way they designed it was obvious that they don't want you to use it. But probably need to have because of market pressure.
