When to Upgrade Clutches?

I've ran across some info but it's a bit different going back and forth between the M5 and M3. But as far as I understand it after tuning the M5 and raising the power to over 650-700whtq the clutch needs to be upgraded?
Basically is that the power level one should be making plans for an upgrade?

I'm considering an M5, and would prob just do a flash tune and sport cat down pipes.

If i remember correctly stock clutch pack starts to slip around 650. If you are just doing a tune and DP's stock clutches should be fine for awhile. Once you add meth and catless dp's it will easily go beyond what the stock clutches can handle.

Thanks guys. That's pretty much in line with what I'm reading everywhere.

Most people will see a slip around 650-680 depending on the wear and tear of their clutches as well as other variables.

Others like myself, did not have clutch slippage until about a year after having tunes where as my buddy stated seeing it the next week after he tuned his car.

Personally, if I could do it all over again, I'd probably go stage 1-2 and call it a day and be happy. I hear that going the clutch route is a head ache and you loose stock drivability.

Nice good insight much appreciated.

By stage 1 or 2 you mean just like a flash tune alone or flash and some type of hi flo downpipes?

Imo it's still defeating the purpose...meth is far more reliable and gives better advantages I.e. Fueling and cooling bs using 2 gallons on top as well.

I could be wrong but I doubt you'd gain anything from 2-3 gallons of e85 while spraying meth the entire time.

Not a fan of e85. To unreliable of a mix at pumps and dialing it in is a PITA.

Alex@MissionPerformance has said that the manual clutch is much stronger than the DCT; he has tuned the OEM manual M5 to over 700wtq w/o slipping.
