Muffler Delete on M5

Decide to drop by a local shop for them to do a muffler delete on the M5 today. It took two hour and 200 bucks later, here is a pic of the finish product. First impression so far is that the car finally sounds like the way it should coming off the lot.

Definitely the right way to go if you're going to do a muffler delete.

Looks great and I bet it sounds amazing.

hey...question.

I too want to make my M5 sound better, however, not enough to spend thousands of dollars. So I was thinking a muffler delete, although I do not know much about it.

Can you please tell me what exactly is a muffler delete, and if it affect the HP or performance of the car?

Also, this is a lease, how would I put the car back in form prior to the muffler delete?

thanks dude.

Muffler delete is simply taking off your stock mufflers and straight pipe it with aftermarket tips. It doesn't do anything to the engine or hp. You might gain a few hp. Upon lease return any muffler should would weld the mufflers back. Its really simple and cost effective. I did it on my leased M5.

Most muffler shops have everything they need with the exception of the tips. They usually carry tips but they may not be what you want so you could always pick a set up and take it with you.

Make sure you tell the guy to do a nice straight cut on the OEM so that you can reinstall.

You installed a Magnaflow 11386. Is there a difference in this and a true x pipe?

Just cap or plug them. A golf tee can be used in a pinch.

I've heard that a lot of people disabled this active sound to help reduce drone

the active sound doesnt make near as much of a difference as u think. just let it play. its just a lil bit of motor noise not exhaust. when you get catless downpipes and a muffler delete u have effectively overridden the active sound. cheers!
