Lost Key

Lost my key. Is it a total PITA to get a new one, or not too bad?

Lose one more and it will be a pita. Replacement is costly but worth it in my opinion.

If I remember right they are somewhere around $300-$500 a key to replace. Make sure they remove the missing key from the car for two reasons: security and to prevent issues.

The M5 has a maximum key pairing limit. Pairing too many keys to the car conflicts with the comfort access and you end up with a slew of C/A related issues.

It will be a PIA. They generally require you to show up with the title and id.

I guess thats a good thing for security purposes, would hate for it to be easy to recode a key just based on a VIN.

Probably going to be an ///M mark-up.

No doubt. I think this mainly protectes against "insinders" being able to create keys. For my wife's Benz, I had to show up with title, passport and registration before they could even order the key. Then she had to go back to have it programmed when it came in.

See if you can find a key online and then get the dealership to reprogram.
