Spark Plug Change

Hi everyone,

My car has just hit 25,000 miles and the service told me that it needs new spark plugs at the 25k miles mark.

Can anyone confirm on this?

It would depend on the type of driving you IMO.

The previous M cars required this around 30,000 miles, so I wouldn't be surprised this is the case with the twin turbo engine. Regardless, this is something you can do on your and will cost you fraction of what the dealer will charge you - if you know your way around the car.

Not under warranty as its a serviceable item. Would be covered if you have the service pack.

I thought it was covered in the 30k mile range under the service agreement (not warranty). I'll need to dig up my manual to look.....

OP is in England. I think maintenance warranty like the one in the US does not apply over there.

Mine is at 23k miles, they did the 25k warranty service which included plugs, air filters, oil, etc. So yes, spark plugs are included.

The only thing you pay for during the maintenance period is tires.

P.S. I'm from the U.S. I know other countries service/maintenance scopes are different.

In the U.S, "everything" is covered under the warranty maintenance period except for tires. Brakes is included.

Plugs are cheap, if you leave them they can put load on the coils and make them fail as well. 15k miles for plugs is plenty.

Bump. Anyone install plugs?

What are the steps? I can do a write up with pictures if I know the basic steps. I don't know if I go under the car or through the open hood...

All through the top of the hood. I've seen it done but never did it myself. Takes time but it didn't look that hard.

I had my plugs done today under the factory warranty at 39K miles. I asked my Advisor how much the service would have cost me.

$846. Definitely looking for DIY when warranty is gone...
