Just to get things straight..... Cadillac had been building cars with " ZERO " sportiness and absoloutly no atheletic aptitudes whatsoever for what seemed like 200 years before they starting offering the cts-v . Anyone who can't apreciate that car for what it has to offer , for what it demands in return and for how simple it is , is truly not a car nut!! You truly have to drive the thing to apreciate it . And in real world use, from stop light to stop light and in gear acceleration, i wouldn't speak in bad terms about to quickly if i were driving its closest competitor..

I don't know, drive an STI and then a 1 series and it's pretty clear the BMW is far superior as an all around car especially in terms of its quality but the STI is one of the most fun cars out there, I never pass up on the opportunity to get behind the wheel of one.
preachhhhhh... I own one..... Simple tune and exhaust, basically nothing i've encountered accelerates like a tuned sti.... Just sayin!!

There's nothing basic about the 997 S. It's very light by comparison and has a lot of power. Even with PDK it only weighs a little over 3200 lbs and has 385 hp.

That being said. The M Division knows what they are doing. The next generation will focus on lighter weight materials and more hp. See the CRT? I think it's a sign of even better things to come.

The most cost effective way to achieve more hp is to go turbo. And don't forget about their ability to create legendary chassis. Saying that the M Division have mastered the art of chassis design is an understatement. I am looking forward to the next generation.

Cheers,
David

Did you actually read the list?

Have a peek at the first 6 times listed....everything on the internet must be true.

The time is "claimed" by the BMW project leader. Shocking. There are so many unknowns at this point (ie. tires, passenger like the Pana TT time?, etc) that it is pure speculation at this point.

Run it in stock set up, side by side with the V/Pana TT/E63 and then we'll have a better idea of what the car is actually capable of.

In case you've forgotten, M stands for Marketing.

Hell no it doesn't count, what a terrible car.

And to the guy crying about the M5 not being able to catch a 997, you must be on drugs. Go to a Porsche dealership and take a Carrera S to a twisty road, an M5 with coilovers still can't hold a candle to the way and the speed at which a 997 takes corners.

M5 AWD- I wonder if it'll knock off 4-5 seconds with AWD or actually lose time because of the weight.

This car can't defy the laws of physics! Weight is the enemy, and those Porsches weigh nearly half a ton less. M5 is an all-rounder, Porsche can be too, but are more sporty in nature. That is the beauty of the M5. Year round comfort and athletic abilities on tap

The next CTS-V will be a much more refined luxury sedan with more power. So Cadillac will keep things interesting. The upcoming twin turbo ATS-V will be ready for duty around the same time.

Wow. An impressive time!

I find it really amusing how many people took the opportunity of viewing this preliminary Nurburgring time as a chance to somehow bash Cadillac. If you guys really don't consider the V a solid competitor, then why the sudden collective sigh of relief at seeing the F10's time? This site is awesome, but you guys make your automotive inferiority complex so very obvious at times.

I'd still take the M5 over the GT-R though, just based on looks alone

That car was far from stock specification. It has an exhaust, maybe a tune, and R comps. Still, it is impressive. Very
I actually saw that car at the Philly car show with the video of the 7:55 run.
Major problem: we can't buy the Japanese Spec-C here in the States! Most Americans don't know that.

MPG is the name of the game. You should know this. Does the acronym CAFE mean anything to you?

As mentioned, R-comps, exhaust, intake and a very aggressive tune on top of Spec-C trim (which starts at $45K equivalent to USD). Reliability is going to be shot but hey it was fast. I really don't support this kind of "cheating" on ring times. Where is the stock STi? Maybe all manufacturers should run Rcomps!
