Why no R while backing up on the HUD?

I always try to impress the neighbors with a J turn coming out of the garage. But when you think you're in "R" and you're not, things go to shit real quick. I've accidentally parked my car in the laundry room on more than one occasion due to this huge oversight on BMWs part. A drivers car? Bullshit. "M" is for marketing!

On a related note... What about auto parking sensor? When I pull in the garage I have to hit the button to kick it in. Seems that radar should pop up when I'm two foot away from something. Everything else is automatic (wipers, headlights, AC on whether you want it or not, seat position with comfort entry, transmission etc etc). Maybe coding can do it?

Also, how about head light washers? If your lights are on and your car is clean and you get mist of a bird drop on your windshield and you hit the wiper washers you also get a splash on your hood from the head light washers. This function should be on a different button.

is your headlight set on auto? if its not in auto, it does not shoot the headlights - at least in my lowly m3. should be similar logic though right? give it a shot.

Doesn't the R on the gear lever light up? I mean you could just as well look down there instead of looking straight forward if you're going to reverse.
