This (great) new tech has not been approved for US models. Hopefully soon. I don't know if it's available in other parts of the world. Maybe someone else will chime in.

along with a few other niceties I suspect... interestingly though, it already has the speed adjustment... I need to go 127KPH on the speedo to actually go 120Kph on my other GPS sources.

This is the adaptive LED lights that is an option on the M5 now & includes HBA but keeps main beam on more of the time.

I have it on my LCI 530d M Sport & used it tonight for the first time. Have to say, not convinced it made a huge difference to the illumination...not sure I'd spec it again, but will give it more time before final judgement!

Not sure if it's in the US but I think it is.

5AP Decoding for no-dazzle high-beam assistance

This is from the order I placed for my M5.

These are only on the Adaptive LED lights, it's like a more intelligent HBA

This makes me think it can be coded back on. I.e. they "decode" it for US cars but it is there to be re-coded once we find the right incantations in the programming software.

The HBA in US models is pretty simple. High beams turn on automatically when conditions are appropriate, and automatically turn off when oncoming traffic or other lighting is detected, like red lights at an intersection. I and others retrofitted this to our 2013 models.

The advanced HBA (as demonstrated in the video) keeps the high beams on continuously and 'tracks' approaching traffic or other light sources using a camera, and dims the light output directed towards that traffic automatically to not dazzle the other driver. Your high beams never actually turn off. Audi, VW, and a few other automakers have this tech approved for use in Europe but not here.

It's available for both LED and HID light sources on BMW models.

I never did investigate whether our headlamp modules have the extra motors, shutters and such required for it. Due to cost and regulatory uncertainty, probably not. But if you switched to ECE-derived lighting (I'll be doing this on my GC), the extra bits will probably be there.

Never trusted the std HBA; I'll have to have a go if the advanced version is now standard in UK. I'm assuming that the LEDs have a more distinct edge to the lit area than xenons, so the effect is more noticeable?

Depending on your perspective, yes. It is more noticeable to me, but it also has the added benefit of being less noticeable to other drivers.

Audi's new "matrix" LED technology achieves this by using lots of LEDs that can be individually controlled. It's neat technology.

John - is there an option to switch on/off daytime running lights in your iDrive menu - it was there on my pre-LCI, but is missing from the LCI? As they're not compulsory over here, not sure if it's just the s/w version I have installed.
