I have driven so many AMG's (however not the very latest E63 AMG facelift) and all I gotta say is: AMG LOL.

+1.. AMG's move to AWD was incredibly smart. The light feeling they are talking about sounds like AMG has taken the time to create their version of torque vectoring. The AMG looks more grown up, cheaper fully loaded than the m5, and has supercar territory straight line speed. One white on red E63 AMG S for me please...

According to this test, the '12/'13 RWD E63's curb weight was 4,233lbs:

So it looks like it gained almost 300lbs in the process.

The M5 will still be the benchmark though.
When confronted with the choice of either the M5 or the E63, you can't choose poorly.

Which AMGs have you driven? Model and year would be great.

As I mentioned earlier, I've driven the various E9X M3 variants multiple times over the years. When my F30 M Sport 335i wasn't living up to my expectations (despite pouring absurd amounts of money into M Performance products), I went car shopping.

I test drove an E92 M3 (I had driven the E92 M3 at least 5 times prior to this test drive) and was very impressed.

I then drove a friend's 2012 (i.e., LCI) C63 (my only prior seat time in a C63 was way back in 2009 for a dealer test drive). After that drive, I immediately called my local MB dealer to either order a '13 model or snag one that was unaccounted for at the port in Baltimore. It ticked all the same boxes for me as the M3 but exceeded the M3 in terms of power delivery and fun factor. I also much preferred the C63's interior but that preference is subjective.

When the lease on my '13 C63 is up I will drive the new F80 M3/M4 and the new C63. The badge won't make my decision; the drive will.

That's how good AMG has become, in my humble opinion. There once was a time where AMG made merely straight-line monsters and the boys at the M division made complete, well-rounded cars. Well, now they both churn out excellent performance road cars and I'd be foolish and myopic to not consider the offerings from both companies.

M5 all day everyday, why? Because it was harder to get round the fig 8 without spinning.

These are street cars, It's how you get there, not how fast you get there.

Having said that, the AWD might make the AMG the choice for some people just because it's AWD, fair enough, but it is people chasing the numbers offered by different drivetrains that lead BMW Down the path of FWD cars too. Best not forget that.

If the M5 was tested with Ceramic Brakes and the AMG no ceramics and the stop distance was "virtually" the same then that's really interesting. If the AMG had ceramics it would have stopped even shorter.

Not necessarily true. The main advantage of the carbon ceramic brakes is how they are more resistant to degradation in performance (fade) because of their ability to withstand higher temperatures. However, a number of tests have shown similar stopping distances (and in some cases worse) between CC brakes and the steel ones because the carbon ceramics need to be heated up properly to work to maximum effectiveness. Generally, you aren't going to see much of a benefit in a car magazine's 60-0 braking test. You will see a difference hot lapping a car around a track.

Also, the carbon ceramic rotors are much lighter than steel ones. On the M5 and M6 they lighten each corner by 10+lbs. This is especially helpful as it is a reduction in the rotational mass and unsprung weight.

Anytime BMW loses anything you can count on the fanboys coming out to insult the reviewers and just look stupid and like spoiled children. Newsflash, there will always be a better car out there than the one you currently drive. Stop being so insecure and be happy with the car you have. AMG makes amazing cars, thats a fact.

Also LOL at the guy with a 335i saying "AMG LOL".

I'm a BMW guy as I currently drive one and love it, but you gotta give credit where it's due. To me the merc front end looks better, faster car, and is cheaper based on this comparo.
The engine will blow people's minds and will kill some supercars as well...
E63 is a monster and I'd love to own one.

WOW!! As impressive as that was, I am a chicken sh!t when it comes down to tuning $100K plus cars. I don't know if merc has a tuner similar to Dinan.

TOP END. Video proves what you saw on the MT times. F10 has higher traps so from roll AMG will get the lead but eventually F10 will pass.

They are both great cars and just depends on what one is looking for.

Dinan....... no not really- no tuner that puts their foot in the manufacturer shoes for the warranty per se on the Benz side. But there are a ton of tuners that are modding the M157TT engine with strong success with the likes of Renntech, Kleemann, etc. and they step up if there are issues from the feedback Ive seen.
