iRacing - is there anything to learn

With Winter still having a firm grip on the NE and my craving for track time getting unbearable, I bought a G27 and joined iRacing.

Was wondering what your opinion was on the actual effect on real world driving. Any? Negative? Positive (you can actually hone your real life skills).

I know, slightly OT but would appreciate your input.

And of course I would say we all join and convince them to introduce the F8x!

Best,
H

I have not done iracing but we have 2 simulators set up for Forza 5 and GT6 and those games really feedback a lot and teach you to react the right way i think. It can't hurt! Actually i think the simulations are easier to break loose than actual driving so it keeps you on the edge when your actually pushing your car. Forza 5 is really good for simulation. Thrustmaster wheel and pedal setup is very aggressive feedback and feels very realistic. I personally do think it will make you a better driver.

Agreed!

For what it's worth, a close friend of mine who drives in the IMSA series, logs countless hours on iRacing and swears by it.

its amazing, and you can meet some great people on there and get some good tips. I used to do it but sold my sim.

Friend of mine has a sim on it worth about 15k. does 3 axis movement with 3 47 inch screens. Full field of view! sick!

Now he's moving to the option where you wear special googles. not sure what its called. but no more monitors.

iRacing supports Oculus Rift.

I have a full setup at my house from my high school days. I have the Rift D2 which is super stable and surprising 100% compatible with iRacing. I used to use 3 x 24" monitors but Rift blows it away.

OP, I like iRacing and I think it helps but YMMV. If you do plan on doing it, get a Playseat (~$500) for a more realistic feel.
