Leaving for my ED soon. For those who have done ED:
  1. Does the Car come with floor mats at the Welt? Or should I take my own?
  2. When the car is redelivered, do they wrap the car and interior in plastic again during transit? Or should I do something before dropping off the car. I will obviously wash the car
  3. Any recommendations for a car wash near drop off in Munich? Dropping it off on Saturday morning, so would need to make sure the car wash is open on Saturday
  4. Does it come with a full tank of gas?
  5. Is there Wifi at the welt? Want to FaceTime from there to show the car to my brother who is more eager to see her than I am!
  6. What do people normally do for cell phone service? I was looking at AT&T and for $120 I only get 800mb. Pretty sure that is not going to be enough for me. I have a crappy blackberry from work which will have data and voice but BB data sucks. Given I will be in Germany, Austria (only a day) and a week in Italy, is there a Euro SIM card you can buy? Or anything that you guys have done?

Thanks

[*] Does the Car come with floor mats at the Welt? Or should I take my own?
Mine came with 4 plain black floormats. I got a tiny BMW usb stick with my Welt delivery photo on it.
[*] When the car is redelivered, do they wrap the car and interior in plastic again during transit?
No.

Or should I do something before dropping off the car. I will obviously wash the car
Take your emergency med kit, triangle and one of your keys.
[*] Any recommendations for a car wash near drop off in Munich?
Sorry can't help you here. I dropped mine in Nice.
[*] Does it come with a full tank of gas?
Yes they deliver with a full tank of gas.

I brought a small bottle of waterless wash and it did the trick.

    Yes

Thanks - the car is not covered during transport? That makes me worried...

I dropped my car off at the Munich airport. There is an Agip gas station less than a mile away right off the main road. I used the automated car wash ( 12 euro) but wish I washed it myself. The automated car wash ( Sonax) looks pretty high tech but doesn't wash the car very well.
I suggest you use one of the many bays and wash it yourself. Both the automated and the self wash are in the same location. Here is the address
Nordallee 45, 85356 München-Flughafen, Germany
Use as much of the fuel in the tank as possible, leave the thank almost empty. That's what they recommend for transport.
I would not be worried about the car being unwrapped. You and the specialist at drop off will do an inspection at log out. These guys are pros, that's all they do.

Thank you so much. Very helpful. I am going to have to figure out how to burn off that fuel. I only have her for a day. But thanks again

Make sure you make an appointment for log out ahead of time, otherwise they may not be there when you drop off. The package you get at The Welt has info on that.

Ive done 2 EDs (M3 and M5) and dropped off at Loginout Munich Airport both times. I paid for them to wash/ wax the car. No issues either time. Like others said there is a thorough inspection of the car at dropoff.

OT: I'm looking forward to seeing pics of your car.

Any suggestions for where in Austria? I have done the Munich to Neuschwanstein and then to Salzburg. But this was 10 years ago. Anything you can recommend?

My vote goes to the two screen shots below.
1. Munich to Hallstatt Austria. Google Hallstatt, amazing spot.
2. Munich to Brenner pass and from there to San Leonardo in Italy.
I would go to Hallstatt, drive the car on some mountain roads instead of taking the highway to Salzburg. My two cents!

Austria has no toll roads so you need to buy a vignette. Buy it from a gas station in Germany before you cross the border. It's 8.70 euros and valid for 10 days. If you don't have it and you get stopped you will pay around $150

Halstatt looks amazing. We really wanted to go to Lake Como but the itinerary is not working out. Halstatt is right by the lake - fantastic! Looks like its a highway all the way through as well though. Are there any interesting things to see on the way? Been there?

Yes there is free Wifi all over the "Welt"
For data/cell service I am lucky as I use T-Mobile and they offer free international roaming for data
For others it usually has worked out well to buy a pay as you go SIM card at the airport (Blue) , as you get out of the luggage area turn to the right (Terminal 2) and it will be next to the Starbucks.
They sell SIM cards for either voice/data or just data (iPad) .
Works well as long as you have a spare phone/device, or you buy a cheap
cell phone (unlocked)

Btw there is no reason why you have to drop off your car with an empty tank, I usually make a point in filling up the car just before drop off as it will be the last time the car will have "real" fuel to "eat" ...

As for drives around Munich you could also consider :

- Drive from Munich towards Kochel am See
- Garmisch/Kloster Ettal
or
- Spitzingsee
- Tatzelwurm
- Back via the hwy to Munich

Thanks. I ended up using the automatic wash. The dryer at the end is scary. Dryer's plate Comes with an inch of the car and seems like it will hit the car. I was on the edge of my seat.

You are right - didn't do a very good job. I was trying to save time and I didn't - ended up buying drying clothes from the gas station and hand cleaned / dried the entire car.
