Mine was the same. I'm told the thirst for oil lessens over time.

Drove 1200 miles, and no added oil. My 2002 M3 needed oil, and my 2005 545i also but never any problems. Apart of break sometimes it's ok to drink oil vs leak(: have fun

It hasn't happened to me yet, but I'm expecting it. Turbo engines do that at break in. Frustrating that there's no dipstick so you can't check the oil yourself to know if you should just go ahead and add a quart proactively. I'm driving up to Albany and back tomorrow so I just went ahead and bought a quart of this to keep in the car:

I am really surprise about this oil thing. I did ED and drove over 2000 miles and was not asked to put in oil. In fact, anticipating that additional oil, due to a few comments about the car needing oil after several miles of use in this forum, I bought a 1 liter 0W-40 oil at the Welt. I have checked several times hoping that the car would need the oil as I would not want to bring the oil (of which I paid around Euro 28) with me back home. Anyway, I just ended up not using the oil at all. Oh by the way, I don't know if this matters but I have the 6-speed manual M5.

Same here. I did 2000 miles during ED and my oil level was still full at drop off.

However I have noted on the 550i people have also had varying experiences with oil consumption.

The oil consumption thing, I think elevates the need to find an oil that does not leave any ash deposits when it burns.

Mine bonged at 1060 miles, dealer topped off with a liter of 5W-30. Also purchased a couple liters to keep for long trips.

+1 >1500 miles on ED, no oil add directive. Car will be returned with break in service performed, will advise if any change.

I'm at just over 900 miles, oil is full. I have been driving this thing REAL easy the past few weeks since I got it. But I keep a liter of 5W-30 in the trunk just in case. Hope to do 1200 mile service by next week and see where the oil is at.

1200KM (750miles) and got the warning oil was at minimum already. The oil bag provided by dealer had 10W60 in it.

Don't put that 10w60 in. Dealer has made a mistake.

I got the oil message just before my 1200 mile service. My service manager said it would be wise to buy some oil and have it on hand as it will come on again before the next service at 15K miles.

Got the oil warning today at around 3300 miles. Pep Boys stocks Mobil and Castrol 0W-30 and 40. Bought an extra for the next time. This is expected to go away?

Took my car today for 2,000km service, and never needed to add Oil. Not sure what the problem would be here... perhaps some cars were not full from the factory...

But having two Garret Turbos in there, will use some oil... but not the way people have been describing here... It's not a mixed fuel motorcycle

My car did not need oil during break in. During the past 20,000 kms, or 12,500 miles I only topped it up twice when instrcuted. I stuck to break in prodecures even after first service, and since then do a lot of hard acceleration and high speed Autobahn runs. I have the m drivers package. My average fuel consumption over 22,000 kms is only 12.5 litres to 100kms. Well pleased compared to the E60.
