Car seat question

Those of you who have a full convertible car seat, are you able to seat 2 more adults to the back seat WITH the car seat? For example, I have Britax Boulevard 70 CS car seat and I would like to know if I can seat 2 more adults in the back with the car seat.

This is a big problem with my current E90 M3, every time I "attempt" to do this, I need to stop by the physical therapy on my way back to fix people's back

Thanks.

I installed a recaro in mine and had to pull the seat over a bit to drop the arm rest. So, id say a child could sit there but 2 adult will not be happy for extended periods. My wife sits back there with armrest down and feeds the baby. It also feels roomier when the seat is forward facing.

I came out of an E90 M3 and also have two kids who are still in car seats. The M5 is definitely wider, but is your Britax the one with the side bolsters on the side? If so, I think it is going to be a tight fit, but definitely better than in the M3.

Also, how big are the adults? I only saw this because I've had 4 adults in the back seat. It wasn't comfortable, but we were in a pinch and had to squeeze them in. Of course, it was three women and one guy. I think someone was sitting on someone's lap.

Yes, the car seat is the one with side airbags. The adults are usually my parents or my in laws, they are relatively average sized people.

Honestly one of the biggest selling points of this car (to my wife!) is the ride comfort and the fact that now I can take my parents or her parents with our daughter to the beach in summer or to mountains in fall, neither of which we couldn't do because the guy sitting in the middle in E90 would simply be in blinding pain after 5 minutes in the car.

It's a bid disappointing that I cannot seat 2 adults with a car seat in the back especially considering the size of this car. If you cannot do what I'm trying to do with this car, I don't know how else you can. I cannot picture how large the car must be to accommodate 2 people plus a car seat - probably not going to be an M car

I'll see if I can get the time to put it in my M5 and snap a couple of pictures.

I have 2 britax car seats (with the side air bolsters- damn they're huge) and if you have one, you can fit 2 adults back there, however the middle seat gets a little cramped for long stints, but DEFINITLEY better than our previous e90. Now when my wife hops in back in between the 2 seats... now THAT is not exactly comfortable (due to the width of both seats' bolsters squishing her in) it's good to be in the driver's seat in those times. I'll try to take some pics and post, the seats are in her X5 at the moment. This to was a selling point for us whether I was going to go down to the 3 platform or stay with the 5. Unless you have a 7 series, these bigger car seats will eat up a lot of space in any sedan.

If you install the car seat in the middle position, you can get two adults on either side.

+1. I have the same britax with side bolsters. Middle placement is where it's at. BTW - be sure to put one of those rubber mats behind it or you will have leather issues with rubbing.

Those rubber mats interfere with the operation of the car seats and are not safe. They may look really tight and you can put as much weight on the seat as possible to over tighten it, at the time of a crash, a tiniest amount of friction can cause the entire seat to dislocate/move which doesn't mean the seat is going to go flying, but any extra movement will cause your kid to sustain injuries.

I honestly don't care about the leather seat when it comes to my kid. Plus, I have had the car seat on the current M3 novillo leather for 3 years and it's fine. I'm also obviously leasing so I could care less

I thought the Britax mats were the only ones actually approved and tested safe to go with their seats: http://www.britaxusa.com/accessories...seat-protector

We've used the Prince Lionheart seat savers and they work great. In my wife's MDX I definitely noticed a difference as the leather was really starting to show indentations from the seats. Also, they help to protect from spills and debris that kids always bring into the car.

Now, what I really wish I would have gotten for my wife's car is this:

She has a tan interior and the backs of her seats are terribly dirty now from the kids constantly kicking them.

I have 2 Advocate CS in the rear of my M5. The side impact bolsters make it impossible for anyone, even a child, to sit between the seats. I'm switching them out soon for 2 Clek Oobr's as my boys transition.

I would think it a tight fit for 2 adults in the rear with a Boulevard CS no matter how you position the car seat (center, or side). If you must fit 2 adults, look into the Clek Foonf. it has the narrowest profile for a convertible and probably the best in materials quality out right now.

Update with pics. Like I said... Tight squeeze ideally good for very short stints, but still better than a 3 series. Shoulder room may be worse when both r forward facing
