Loud "clunking" Noise From Under Rear

This just happened...

I live in the SF bay area.
Im driving this morning on Skyline Blvd, ofcourse everything is in full sport, mostly in 3rd, sometimes 2nd.
I decided to pass a car at a safe passing point, drop down from 3rd to 2nd, blow past him and carry-on safely down the road.
No longer then 3 minutes later, i start hearing a loud clunking noise from the rear under section.
Car sounds like im driving on flat tires.
I pull over, cut the car off and give it a few.
Soon as i step on the pedal, the noise begins again.
Tried to shift manually to see if maybe it were just one particular gear and that was not a success.
I have no clue whats going on right now.
Im pulled over on the side of a backroad at 730am on hold with bmw roadside assistance waiting for a tow truck.

Thankfully my girlfriend is with me, i randomly brung along some weed and i have my skateboard.

Oh yeah, my car is not pulling up any errors, malfunctions, or anything.
Reads as if everything is good.
Anyone have any idea what might be going on?
Im guessing my transmission is done
Or
My rear axle is broken since ive heard that before in these new M's

Prohaps it's a result of the Weed you obviously smoked too much of it.
PS) gearbox solenoids is probable.

Update.

2 bolts from the rear differential mount broke.
Apparently weak points in the bolts.

Is this a common problem for the M cars? I read a lot of similar threads in the E9X M3 forum.

can you post any pics of what the broke bolts looked like and where they are? Here's a good reference on the M5 differential: http://m5carblog.blogspot.com/2013/02/differential.html
