Anyone know how many miles you can get once the tank range shows up as "Range ---- Miles" ?

In the E60 M5 I could get another 8-10 miles after the "----". Curious to know if anyone has pushed it 5 or more miles after zip in the F10.

I had pushed it 3 miles past earlier today.

What is the M5 fuel tank capacity, 21 gallons? I don't usually fill the car, but did this time. It took 20.728 gallons.

So after the "----" comes on, you have roughly.. between half a gallon - one gallon in the tank?

Anyone else test this out?
its 83L which makes 21.92 US gallons

The hardware must not be accurate enough to allow the driver to calculate exact amounts of fuel. Therefore BMW must have a correction range.. aka reason why under normal driving conditions you have more fuel after "---".

Dont forget that running low on fuel usually results in a Drive train message

WOW,...... over $200 to fill the tank? Do you guys have real gas there, or is it 10% ethanol, 87% gas and 3% water like we have in the US?

Yes, by the way important to know:

Sometimes it's unavoidable.. you run the car to near empty. However if you actually run the tank dry, that could mess up the fuel system and if that happens you'll need to bring the car in for repairs.I think usual issue that happens is air in the fuel lines / fuel pump motor fails from being run dry.

So - try to avoid very low fuel scenarios at all costs.

Haha, no kidding. Gas stations in Europe / outside the US have fuel grades above 93 octane. If I remember right they have like 95/96 and 100 at the pumps.

Ever since getting bad gas (three times) at Mobil in my E60 M5 ownership days.. I always try to fill up at those top tier gas stations. So I always go to Shell and when I can't, I go to Chevron. Never fill up when tankers are present.

Luckily I haven't had any gas issues in a long time.

Naw man. 3/4 low. At that range I still have approximately more than 100 miles to go. But in your case I think I can drive on top of the water all the way to London on one tank of gas.

Not seen that display before; left side, right side tank!
How do you get that on the display?
I simply see the range drop to three horizontal lines, that's it.

weird why the US have a different gallon measurement to UK.... all our fuel tanks are 80 litres. which is 17.6 UK gallons. I always fill up on 99ron juice. do you US guys have to put additives and octane boosters in your fuel tank every now and then, or are the ECUs set to allow for lower ron fuel?
