Most Powerful F10 M5 on the eas dyno hitting 633whp

So far, this is the most powerful F10 M5 we've ever seen on our dyno. Featuring a set of newly installed AMS catless downpipes mated to an Akrapovic Evolution exhaust system and a Switzer tune, this Sapphire Black beast put down a neck-snapping 633whp and 587wtq! Cosmetic modifications on this super-sedan include the IND painted cosmetic package, matte black painted OEM wheels and a set of Macht Schnell wheel spacers. Be sure to check out the video of the dyno run below to see and hear how fast this thing rips through 4th gear.

Modifications
Akrapovic Evolution Titanium Exhaust System
AMS S63Tu Catless Downpipes
IND Painted Cosmetic Package
Macht Schnell Competition Stud Conversion Kit (75mm)
Macht Schnell Competition Wheel Spacers (12mm Front, 10mm Rear)
Switzer P700 Plug & Play Performance Tuner

what everyone has been waiting for...

Enjoy the video

I was waiting for someone to do the Switzer Tune with Catless Downpipes. 633whp is right around the 730 crank horsepower range. Fabulous. I wonder if one will get the same results with the JB Tune and a Catless Downpipe setup. There's that dude with the JB Tuned F13 M6 posting over on M5Board videos of him beating sportbikes on the highway. Lol!

This M5 definitely earns the name "Beast".

Impressive!

But dyno runs on the F10 M5 should be done in 5th gear as far as I understand (1:1 ratio) to avoid the torque multiplication of a lower gear (4th gear is 1,277:1 and 5th is 1:1).

Isn't that correct, or has it been corrected for?

Some info on dynojet and other dynos:

Quote:
Dynojet mathematically creates a horsepower number based on mass (which is the known weight of the rollers) and accleration (how fast the car is accelerating the known weight).

F=ma

From force (F), we can calculate horsepower.

Dyno the car in 2nd gear, and acceleration (a) goes way up, causing force (F) to go way up.

So by dynoing the car in the gear closest to the 1:1 gear ratio, we eliminate any acceleration advantage or disadvantage caused by the transmission, which gives us unskewed whp numbers (even though Dynojet has a fudge factor in there which makes them skewed anyways and read high).

As for other dynos out there (i.e. Mustang and Dyno Dynamics) - they use a load cell to measure roll force (the amount of force the tire is placing on the roller). Based on roll force and the radius arm going to the load cell, we get roll torque. Based on roll torque and roll speed, we can get vehicle horsepower. Vehicle horsepower and vehicle RPM gives vehicle torque. It doesn't matter what gear you run in on load cell style dynos as they are measuring force, not acceleration. Force does not change from gear to gear.
Anyone confirm if the above is correct?

Great question.

On F10 M5, we have to use 4th since we end up reaching the top speed limiter before redline on 5th. Numbers are relatively similar in both gears (even on M3).

Thinking more about it and checking online, it seems there is a lot of confusion on the subject. But this makes sense to me:

Quote:
Anyway, the main issue here is that in order to properly measure/estimate power, any dyno needs to look at the rate of acceleration of the wheels (or hubs), the force being overcome by the wheels, and finally a clean engine RPM reading. The RPM reading is what most people seem to be missing in their assumptions. As long as the dyno knows the wheel speed AND the engine RPM, it can calculate the gearing that got it there. Now as long as these values are recorded properly, the dyno should not show any significant power differences between gears (aside from external factors). Just because in 2nd gear, the torque actually applied to the wheels is greater than in 3rd or 4th gear, doesn't mean the dyno will read higher. It simply looks at the wheel speed versus engine RPM, calculates the correct gearing and displays the correct power output.
So, forget my gearing question... If dyno'd correctly with correct RPM to the dyno, the results should also be correct, since the dyno "corrects" for both the final drive ratio and gear ratio. I.e, the dyno understand the total ratio and the engine does the exact same work regardless of what gir you're in. Just like if you changed the final drive ratio, the engine wouldn't make less power. But it might be able to accelerate the car faster or have a lower cruise rpm. But the engine still makes the exact same amount of HP! As long as the dyno takes engine RPM into the calculation, results shouldn't vary between different gears (apart from variations in frictional losses between different gears)

Nice car though
I've been running the Switzer for almost 4 months with no issues. Absolutely love it!

Thats not correct, I maxed out 4th gear around 243 kph, where as the limiter is not before 255.

Which is exactly what he said. In 5th you will reach the limiter, in 4th you don't... That's the reason they did the run in 4th

Ah makes sense now. Thx. Is it easy to remove the limiter? Has anyone done it?

As far as I know, no one has been able to remove the speed limiter yet. Even though I believe one US tuner claimed they could remove the speed limiter. Don't remember who it was though.

The strange thing is that companies like AC Schnitzer is able to remove the top speed limit on cars like the F10 550i.

Robert, can you ask the owner if it's ok for me to contact him and pm me his contact info. I wanna do some 3rd gear pulls against him for comparison reasons.
