Like I said; it's debatable but not something worth arguing about... these are new cars so not like it truly matters anyways. The direct injection is a nice touch as well although that will hinder most turbocharging efforts at least for a while. The curb weight looks fantastic too and the neutral steering should be nice for autocross events as well, does anyone know pricing or availability in US?

There are plenty of mildly reliable DI turbo engine, the VW/Audi TSI/TFSI and BMW N54/N55 engines come to mind.

The weight of this car isn't impressive to me, as it's been weighed at 2900 pounds.

Wow. Really? That's a lot heavier than expected. Especially for a car that's supposed to be an '86 successor.

The Subaru boxer engine is incredibly reliable, if you learn to leave it alone. However, if you do decide to tinker with it, with it being Japanese and all, parts are cheap.

Agreed. They're claiming 2,690, but I recall seeing a 2,900 pound quote from an actual test, but can't locate it at the moment. Hopefully it's closer to the 2,700ish range.

I agree... although isn't this car meant to be aimed at people that do just the opposite? I don't exactly see an older crowd buying this vehicle but instead enthusiasts that like to tinker with their cars... the direct injection seems to work against that as well in terms of aftermarket turboing; so I am having a difficult time understanding this car.

It's been confirmed to be 2711 lbs and they are releasing a purist version in Japan (steelies, no a/c, no cupholders, etc...) that will reduce the weight to 2623 lbs but also at a cheaper price (unlike Porsche who removes these things but makes the car more expensive).

True, as long as the block can handle a turbo, then I can see it being a tuner's paradise.

Him, I'd rather keep the extra 90lbs and enjoy the car comfortably. I didn't know cup holders weighed anything. Last time I checked, they are an empty void, wouldn't having cup holders weigh less than not having cup holders?

and all this while knowing their sub-brand subaru is also selling the same car with slightly better looks and tad bit better interior.

guess either way it diminishes the meaning of 86...
I agree about that too. When I saw the car with all of the different badges in it I was like WTF.

This one, standard on 16" steel wheels, great for the 'build-your-own' Japanese tuning scene:

whoa, i like that!

No way we are getting that in the USA but it seem like a perfect option for a tuner.

I quite like it as its so close to the original AE86: Fun > speed I'll give it a try for sure!

I love my 86 even if interior is cheap and power is low:

I did not say the car looks like junk.. I said things that are not expensive do not have to look like junk. The car is ugly, it does not look like junk.

No way to mount the AWD drivetrain in that chassis and still keep the engine that low. So probably not. It doesn't even make sense from a marketing standpoint. There's always the WRX.
