M5 343 Rims were Cast All Along?

I was just browsing the BMWUK website, until I stumbled across this...

M6 Gran Coupe Wheels (under Design section):
"The car dazzles with its 20" M Double-spoke 433 M light-alloy wheels, fitted as standard. These burnished rims are painted Orbit Grey. An alternative option is the cast 20" M Double-spoke 343 M light-alloy wheels in a high-quality Bicolour look. Both designs include mixed tyres and display the striking M tag that identifies them as high-performance products at a glance."

F10 M5 Sedan Wheels (under Design section):
"As a standard feature, the BMW M5 Saloon stands on sporty, 19” Double-spoke 345 M light alloy wheels with mixed tyres – the perfect balance between an agile appearance and comfort. An exclusive athletic set of light alloy wheels is also available: cast 20” Double-spoke 343 M light alloy wheels in Bi-colour look or in Black with mixed tyres, consisting of 9 J x 20 with 265/35 R20 tyres and 10 J x 20 with 295/30 R20 tyres at the rear."

So the 343's are not forged after all? So who said that the 343's were forged in Italy and all? Just curious. Honestly, I thought Vossens were expensive cast wheels, but $4K for cast rims? Hell no.

Oh No ! Did BMW cheap out & cut corner on the 14 production run 343M wheels ? It was forged for 13.

Sort of suspected. Doesn't make much sense that the 433s would be cast and the 343s not.

Is there any way to tell if it's forged or not? I wonder when this change was made.

In the Aussie BMW website (ordering guide), the 343M in Black is described as 'Forged Black' while no 'Forged' word is described on the bi-color one.

BMW have always had pretty strong stock cast wheels. It's not really a big deal. However, having the comp package wheels heavier than the 343M is not exactly acceptable esp when visibly, it looks to be lighter and slimmer. Being part of an improvement package should rightfully, see the wheels weight tumble.

I think it is a misprint. The 343 M wheel weights are lighter than my old 20" '09 OEM GT-R wheels and slightly heavier than my old 20" Black Edition ones and both sets were forged. I find it hard to believe that they could make a cast set that is so light and durable.

Agree. BMWNA has confirmed that the 343M is forged. That said, there are two varieties of the 343M - the ones for the M6/GC which are 1/2" wider than the ones for the M5. It's possible one is cast and the other forged.

That said, many prior BMW M wheels have been cast - it's really not that big a deal.

This is the most ignorant thread for a while. If you followed the previous discussions on this topic which were started by people who bothered to do intelligent fact gathering rather posting misinformation, you would have read this:

Ok man I'm sorry! Lol, I rarely ever visit the M5 forums, I did not see that before. Well at least I was wrong, I could not imagine people paying $4K for cast wheels.

The 601 LCI rims do look better in the metal compared to photos, but the pre LCI 343 is certainly more impressive (and fiercer)

Btw, I prefer the front and rear lights, and grill on the LCI; but not the steering wheel (or the rims).

The 343 wheel is still available for the LCI cars. Both in gun metal grey and in a blacked out version. 601 is CP only, but you can choose 343 together with CP.
