No mention of the promised M school yet, just the long overdue check.

Yep. I haven't asked for anything and, so far, have gotten EXACTLY what I've asked for --- NOTHING! LOL

Got a call yesterday saying letter re: free one day "M School" will arrive soon and asked if I was happy with that.

I said I would prefer an extended warranty. She said she would follow up with her boss.

I did ED and car was only delayed by a week or so.

What are people with that fact pattern getting? If they are getting school+cash, I would take that, but to me the logical thing is to restore peace of mind via extended engine warranty.

Well, I'm done with this I guess. I have pretty much exhausted my options. Phone call and letter to BMW Canada and my dealership working on this too. BMW Canada told my dealership that they are not going to step up at all. Pretty disappointing, not even a cheap reach-around or a punch in the nuts. Car out of action for 21 days. Dealership did step up and offer 2 free details for my car. BMW must be doing really well that they are willing to alienate people willing to drop 120K on a vehicle. I want to be more pissed off, but the M5 is just too fucking awesome. *sigh*

Confusing. BMWNA seems to have been consistent with other members on here. I've not heard of instances where compensation was completely refused. Seems like a pretty standard $1-2k refund or 1-2 lease payments or at least BMW performance driving school. You were offered none of these?

Not confusing at all. Totally canada. I can say that since was born n raised there. Its night and day different when u compare customer service between the two countries. Anyone who has spent extended time in each country (and i dont mean lots of one day border hop visits....i mean lived there) would say the same I bet. Sad really....i didnt want to go at first, now i dont ever want to go back...

I thought Canada was in North America. BMWNA.

Apparently not. Bummer.

I would send the CEO a personal letter, and the link to this board so he would have a glimps on what's being done! It will get read, hope he will see what the field troops are not doing. Unreal as there should be no difference in the states vs. Canada. My car was not late just a pump deal, and they came me a check and M school while saying sorry.

Formula for ED

Does anyone have a formula or a difinitive way to determine if and what compensation should be?
For ED, I would guess that a prorated monthly payment (assume avg of $1500) for every week that your car exceeded 10 weeks west coast and 8 weeks east coast. Also assuming that you dropped off in Munich or Bremerhaven.
I don't think many will be affected under that criteria.
When you throw an Act of God like Sandy into the mix, anything by BMW would be generous.

Start high, and work down which appears to what is taken place. Also some loyalty kudos thrown in, and I made it clear this is my 6th BMW and wanted to be greased fairly. OT did help that I said 7 will come next year and I still have three of them in the garage now. The last thing they want is to kill future sales, and they can see your purchase record. Good luck.

Yes, it seem to make would make sense but in BMW's eyes Canada is the red headed step child.

Ditto. Got my letter today. Honestly, I thought that class was free with every M5 in the first place. I got with E60 and attended. Good fun, but not something I feel like repeating. Maybe if it were an advanced class I might schlep over there. Otherwise this "compensation" is a coupon for a free product that I don't want (and can't sell / xfer), so is worthless to me.

Count me in for receiving the offer today. For me this gesture was good enough to make up for the 2 extra days that the car spent at the VDC having the pump replaced.

Got my M5 driving school letter today and I am grateful for it. I will take advantage of the offer so for me it is a nice way to end this recall episode.

I'll post updates as this progresses. Best of luck to everyone who is going through the same process!
Update: Still getting the runaround.

Timeline so far:
10/31- initial call received. Should hear back in 3-5 business days.

11/7-called them back and received a voicemail. Response: Another 3-5 days promised.

11/13 - see 11/7. Exactly the same
11/21 - called and left a rather direct message. Needless to say I don't look forward to the poor sap who has to deal with me on the next call.

With this level of service failure, how can they expect to keep their customers? A brand can only take you so far. When your products and customer service fail at the level I have experienced with this vehicle do you honestly now want me to fill out the survey I just received? Here's a hint: you are not going to like my unedited responses. Although I don't know what good it will do to tell you in yet another format of your failures when you don't seem to give a damn and treat long term customers in this manner.

End rant.
Update

Received a call today to inform me my request has now been put in front of a "supervisor" (whose name I couldn't attain) and they will get back to me (wait for it) in 3-5 days.

I informed them this is the last time I will accept that response and should this not be resolved in that time frame I am contacting BMW directly.

At this point I am not being treated like a long term customer. I am the next person to read an index card to over the phone.

Fail.

Letter for 1 day M school came today. Notice that accomodations are not included.
I would like to see if I can use this as partial credit for a two day school, anybody have an idea of the value of the one day school being offered?

Got a bit of a surprise. BMW Canada sent me a gift certificate for $500 which I can use for parts or accessories. Party time!
