You know what I'm thinking will be even worse, is that since we don't have our cars right now (i.e., on transport for redelivery) that they won't even give us a loaner or anything like that...they will probably just extend our redelivery dates. I'm trying not to get frustrated about this until we know for sure, but this does kind of blow that we'll potentially have to wait another few weeks.

Also, since I'm getting PCD on the redelivery, I wonder if they are just going to redo the work at the factory or have to take it to a dealer..??..?? Little upset, but hoping they do the right thing by everyone.

I have asked my CA for a service loaner now

Bmw is very good at fixing their problems, but to pay this much money for a car and to have to stop driving it immediately for a defect in the design is ridiculous.
It doesn't sound like it is a design defect affecting every F10 M5 produced. They have been available in Europe since late last year after all. My guess like others on here is that there probably was a bad batch of oil pumps from a supplier. That's not something you would run into while testing if earlier batches of the oil pumps didn't have the problem.

I disagree on the comment about the testing. Every car should be tested for design flaws. It shouldnt take a ED Customer to get stranded 120 miles outside of Munich and have an engine blow up for this to come to light.

Mine as well. I guess we know why the residuals were so bad.... Doubt people will be lining up for the '13's when the leases are up.

I got the confirmation email with my pickup time a few hours ago. Wonder how they'll handle this if I want to step away, or if they can even give me the car when I get there.

Agreed from a customer's point of view. As for BMW, and assumed it's a bad batch of oil pumps (which we don't know yet), it's part of the QC/QA system to avoid things like this to happen. Without knowing the specifics of BMW's QC/QA system, it's often the the job of the supplier to check their products, take samples, etc. Somebody is in big trouble right now, that's for sure.

Best regards,
south

You may have misunderstood me. New models do go through rigorous testing in order to uncover design flaws. While we don't know all the details of this issue yet, it sounds like it may be a manufacturing problem which affected a certain batch of oil pumps. That's not something you would run into while testing if the oil pumps in the test cars did not have the manufacturing problem. If it was a design flaw with the oil pump itself, wouldn't we hear about recalls for all production F10 M5's and F12/F13 M6's?

Just got off the phone with my dealer, ran thru my VIN #

My VIN # came back clean ... at least for now. No other technical and/or service remarks are attached to it.

Production: started the week of July 16/12

Country: Canada

Yes, first and second year model M cars... I learned the lesson.
Same here, I had a very early 2008 M3 and the DCT software lag was silly, but that pales in comparison to an engine smoking. What a black eye for BMW, I hope they get this together (though secretly I won't cry if we someday revert to non-turbo engines).

My SA informed me that my VIN is included on the BAD batch. I guess I really dodged the bullet after driving it for 2051 miles in Europe! LOL!

What's crazier is that my M5 is supposed to go on the boat tomorrow. They have to drive the car onto the boat, so I'm hoping that the dock workers did not get the memo to not drive the car. OMG!

... I thought it was weird to spot an M5 and an M6 at the same time at my dealer's service department today as I dropped off my car for routine service.

Just got a call from a supervisor from BMWNA and she stated the recall is for ALL 2013 M5 & M6 vehicles, it is not vin specific. They advise having the car towed to the dealership and parts will be available in 2-3 weeks

Talked to my dealer again and he confirmed that I'm not on the list nor is another of his customers that are a mid july production. He did say their M6's were on the list however.

Mine went into production 7/5, completed 7/12.

I asked my adviser and BMW NA if I was on the list, they both said NO and that I could continue to drive my car. Will I be put on the list eventually, time will tell.

I wish they gave this much attention to the 335i fuel pump issue.
