F90 M5 Review (Carwow)

0-60 in 3.1 seconds
1/4 mile in 11.1 seconds

0.1 faster than the new E63 in both. I think I will still try the AMG once they depreciate a bit.

Good response from BMW as expected--- I think the weight helps out here.

These are very close rivals yet again.

I wonder how the F90 Exhaust really sounds LOL.... I hope they fixed that shit.

Awesome car, but it is exactly what was expected. The E 63 S is still the more exciting car. Can't wait for the comparos.

I sat in both the E63S and F90 M5. Both are very comfortable. I felt the E63S to be a little more luxury though. The tech in the F90 was better. Both great cars and just too close for comparison. The F90 should've had something that differentiated it more from the E63S. Both will be excellent 2nd party used cars in a few years time when prices plummet on them both.

Is it more "exciting" because you've had more BMWs than MBs in your past or MBs tend to be looser in terms of feel/ride? I feel it's like me saying Peruvian women are more exciting since I'm only used to dating Brazilian women...ok, probably not the best analogy since one can never call Brazilian women less exciting or Peruvian women looser, but hopefully you get my point.

I think everything is great about the car except the front, which is a mess IMO.

With 1/2 liter more displacement and a motor proven to 800+hp on pump, the M5 can finally get the power to the ground and IS the more exciting car....

I heard the E63 stock exhaust is insane? Sounds great in videos. Paired with catless downpipes it will be epic

100% it is, the loudest at the Lightning Lap at WOT. I wonder how the F90 will sound (ive asked this so much LOL). We will need to see how the F90 fares around the track as well since the E63S is putting up amazing times. And of course we will need to see more tests with each car going against each other at the same time. CarWow did their E63 on some crappy airfield I read and didnt even have test gear in the car (again what I read) but both are going to be amazing performers.

Nice performer, But even as a BMW man, I have to say the Benz is a nicer looking car. The only thing I like about this car more than my F10 are the Seats. Those seats are really nice. I hate the "After thought" I Drive screen. It sticks out like a sore thumb. I actually hate all manufacturers who are doing that screen.

LOL, don't worry I get it. The E 63 S AMG is an awesome piece of kit, I had a crack at one on the track, and I was left speechless about its performance and dynamics. The M5 F90 is on the same level in terms of those things, but that is expected. The trouble is AMG cars now are excellent where BMW excelled (dynamics, and handling), but retaining the fun muscly and loud character. While BMW M cars have become more and more capable and boring at the same time. The M5 F10 didn't have as much character as the previous E 63 and CLS 63 but it was a more rounded package. Today though, both are at the same level, but the AMG has far more character. I really like the F90 and I probably will own one at some point, but to me the E takes the cake.

Vic, buddy agree with you on sound ....I’ve decided to sit out and watch this 4 door thing settle. I still think BMW is losing their way with the M5 vs others. Speed is not the final measuring stick it’s the all around driver. MB is being serious here, and BMW is living in the past. So for sound and feel I will enjoy the hell out of the 458 couldn’t resist. My 4 door will be my SUV. 2018 could be the first time I’ve not owned a BMW since 1999 when I turn in the M4.

I find that the MB design cues are too feminine. This is especially the case for the C63 AMG. Not a big fan of E63 AMG's looks. I like the understated look of the F10 and F90. That said, the blue color of the F90 car shown in the reviews is hideous. Couldn't BMW have picked a better color for its F90 release!?!

I can appreciate the aggressiveness of the F90. I?t has a nice sporty look, with a luxury feel to I?t. Although the E63 may be the more luxurious car to many, I?t just doesn't do I?t for me exterior wise. I?t looks soft in its basic form. A neighbor picked one up a few weeks back and I saw the E63s badge on the back, and I had a hard time telling what was so different about I?t over the basic E class model, other than the exhaust. I?t just looks too soft.

I'll disagree on the aggressive look of the F90. Aside from some minor front visual cues, its just like the F10. Why couldnt BMW just flare those rear fenders slightly???...my major gripe with current F10 M5. Most of us cannot fully utilize this car's power/performance, so exhaust note, looks, etc. creep up on the priority list; between the 2, I'd slightly lean towards the MB.

Several recent reviews have said the same thing; the M is more docile in its sound and looks. While I am biased cause I have an E63S, the M5 looks just like an M3 without the bump in fenders... too much G35 platform here.

BMW has in many ways ‘neutered’ the M Division. So many BMWs now come equipped with an ‘M’ badge even if they’re not an actual ‘M’ car. Combine that with the dilution of the actual sport in the true ‘M’ cars, and there’s just not much to get overly excited about with modern top of the line BMWs; I don’t care how fast in a straight line they are.

IMHO the new E63S is a far more ‘exciting’ vehicle on every level.

These cars are pretty much the same. This is no different than Mustang vs Camaro at a higher price point. The Germans keep copying each other.
