Tire and Wheel warranty - should I buy it ??

My M5 arrives in two weeks....im back and forth on whether or not I should purchase the dealer's tire and wheel warranty. Is the warranty negotiable? What is the costs ? Your thoughts are appreciated.

It really depends on what part of the country you live in and how much bad luck you generally have. If you live in the NorthEast USA, definitely get it. There are potholes that can swallow an entire car. If you live in SoCal, don't get it, as the only thing you really have to worry about is random road debris. It doesn't snow in SoCal so there are no plowtrucks destroying the roads and causing major potholes. If you live in Texas, it's the same as SoCal. If you live in Montana, I wouldn't get it either as there are not that many people on the road anyways. I've literally driven all over the entire United States, I've been to 45 of the 50 states, and without a doubt the NorthEast has the absolute worst roads and it's 3x worse in the winter. The rest of the country isn't that bad at all.

Also to put it in another perspective. I've driven my F10 M5 now for over 45,000 miles. In 45,000 miles of driving, there has only been 1 instance where tire insurance would have come in handy. I hit a ridiculously deep pothole, which was in the middle of the freeway, driving up to Philadelphia early this year. I hit the pothole going 80mph, and the wheel held up like a champ, but the sidewall of the tire got damaged causing a huge bubble. The rest of the 44999 miles I have driven, no problems at all. Just do your best not to run over crap on the road here in America. Over in Europe the highways are so clean, you could eat off of them.

Don't get it. Proven money makers for the dealers and that's it.

its good for peace of mind thats about it. It won't cover tires with low tread either as far as my experience, i got a nail and the tire had low tread and they wouldn't replace it. I might have got jipped. I made them refund me for the policy and never needed it again, this was on an X5M

I have just the opposite experience. I replaced three rears on my M5 in the first year. The first one was a nail picked up three weeks after I took it home. About a year later I got two new rears at 12,000 mi one had a bulb and the other had a screw. The policy was $1300 so it's paid for. Anymore tires are free. Same story with my 535, 3 tires in three years on that one. So far I already have one on the Porsche, it was a screw I picked up in the first week I owned the car.

Porsche Roadside Assistance towed the car to a dealership that replaced the tire and I was on my way, no money out of pocket.

I've had it on my last 2 bmw's and it has been worth the money. already used it on 3 tires for my M5, so it basically paid for itself already.

if your previous experience was bad on your wheels & tires, get it, if not, dont bother wasting that money.

Just realized you're probably buying a new M5, spending over 100K....just spend the extra $1300 ish and get the warranty. It will give you peace of mind.

Agree what others have said. I live in the NE so the roads are bad enough to generally make it worth it. Just remember, if you plan to switch to aftermarket wheels, the BMW policy doesn't cover them. So if you are one to go for different wheels, this needs to be factored in.

I owned a previous generation m5 and had to replace 4-5 tires in 4 years due to pot holes. That said after that I had a m3 and never replaced a tire in 4 years due to pot holes. Now I'm back to a m5 so we will see but I opted out of it.
